Agusta 109 QinetiQ Empire Test Pilots School, Boscombe Down 2020

Scaleworx resin 1/72

All the markings are homemade

It makes a change to have to remove details from a kit rather than scratchbuild and add them! The kit represents a South African AF machine with lots of military lumps and bumps that I didn't need for this. A nice kit but the resin has a strange feel to it.

This is a Sierra Scale Models vac form from Louisville, Kentucky, USA. The kit is the Albatros CVII and represents an aircraft on the Western Front from late 1916 to mid 1917. The type entered service in September/October 1916 and was eventually superceded by the DFW CV, Rumpler CIV and LVG CV from the summer of 1917.  It was still highly regarded by the crews for short range tasks such as artillery cooperation but performance was no longer deemed acceptable for the longer range assignments.

1/72 Societa Italiana Aeronautica (SIA) Savoja Pomilio (SP) 2

This is a scratch build using the DataFile 128 as a source for plans and photos. I have scratch built/converted a few pushers in 1/72 and 1/32 scale so have form in this area of modelling, but this little b....r nearly stopped me because I had difficulty moulding the upper part of the nacelle. Apart from that it was a straightforward project: it is nailed together in the usual fashion except that I soldered the outer rudder posts to the lower booms. The serial is from Arctic Decals, everything else is home made. The model represents an aircraft from 38 Squadriglia in February 1917. There are more images and some historical background to this less well known type in the RFI section.

Attack Squadron 1/48 F2F-1

This is Grumman's second aircraft. The prototype first flew in 1933 and served in front-line USN and USMC squadrons from 1935 to 1939 when it was replaced by the F3F. The last aircraft was stricken in 1943. The model represents aircraft 9624, a well documented VF-2 aircraft.

The wing rigging is Wonder Wire (6 mil ceramic fibre); RB Productions Streamline Wire was used for the tailplane rigging. The gunsight was made from Albion tubing and loon UV Clear Fly Finish for the lenses.

Evening All,

Here are some pictures of the completed Morane parasol. I have posted these and some historical notes in the RFI section.

I was unable to find a suitable serial number for my model, so this represents a generic machine as flown by the RNAS in 1915.

Thanks for looking.

My Northrop Savage finally gets a bit of Gallery Time.

A build that changed direction a few times but finally ended up as a smoothed out desk display sort of thing. It's basic and not without flaws but it has a certain presence due to its size and its sinister dark blue finish. I'm happy with it.

The dark finish eats light, making it look almost black. It's Tamiya dark blue TS spray paint and it went on very well. Expensive stuff, but worth stumping up the extra.

Build thread here...
