Gidge
The Eduard HUD was a fiddley stressful gentleman's parts of a thing. If anyone's figured out an easy way to do that, please let me know.

Gidge
And the other side. Delicate and stressful. Manual isn't particularly clear so consult reverence photos
Parabat
Nice work, the Hobby Boss Tomcat instructions are even more vague!

Gidge
Onto the rear landing gear. Check photo references for the small parts, manual is OK but a little vague on them
Gidge
Parts for the other rear gear leg. Detail is impressive but it's delicate work. Impressive engineering

Gidge
Painting the back side of the light on the front landing gear strut This silver paint is designed to work with a gloss black undercoat to give it the extra shine. But to create the effect of the reflector on the inside of the light assembly I'm painting it inside out. Will then be coated in while with the rest of the gear after it's attached
Gidge
Attached the light to the gear strut. I left the sprue on to make it easier to work with and apply pressure while the glue bonded. Will remove later after it's had some time to cure

Gidge
Having the kit for my next project arrive seems to have spurred me on (I had a moment of weakness). The replacement canopy I ordered has landed in the country so I can get to that soon. Hopefully should be onto the main paint job soon
Alan P
This is a good blow-by-blow build. Shame Hornets don't get much love from the BM members! The kit details look good but for one of the leading kits in this scale it doesn't fit together very well, it's given you a lot of work fixing the seams 🤔

The kit details look good but for one of the leading kits in this scale it doesn't fit together very well, it's given you a lot of work fixing the seams 🤔 There's a few really nice builds on here that have helped me figure a few things out. Probably because there hasn't been much new in terms of Hornet and Super Hornet kits for a long time. People have probably built a couple and moved on. Kinetics' recent legacy Hornet's look like good well engineered kits. But Kinetic being a relatively new company from what I've read they suffered some growing pains on their earlier kits and put a few people off. I'll probably build one with RAAF markings down the track. This kit is a dated Hasegawa kit that Eduard jazzed up with a few aftermarket bits. Hasegawa have been redoing the same Super Hornet kit since 2005 and it shows. The engineering was good for the time but moulding and material tech has come a long way since then. I can understand that it's a technically difficult kit to faithfully engineer and back in 2005 it was probably the best that could be done while bringing it to market at a reasonable price. Meng's new Super Hornet kit looks really good and a solid step forward. It appears to address most of the engineering issues on the Hasegawa kit while bringing a few innovative new features to the table. So hopefully we'll see more of them here soon. For anyone who's got one in the stash or doesn't want to wait for Meng to release a 2 seat variant it's still a nice kit that I've mostly enjoyed working on. Definitely not the most user friendly one out there but I haven't built a kit in 20 years and I'm still managing. Most of my slowdowns have been more down to planning and project management. So this kit and it's variants are probably not the smartest for a first build or a lapsed builders return to the hobby (like many of us with lockdowns and working from home) but still achievable. For someone with a couple builds under their belt who's looking to push themselves to the next level this would really be a good kit to experiment with things like gap filling or fitting pieces that aren't quite the right shape etc as most of these issues are in places that are less noticeable. So you can try your hand at it without too much fear of ruining the model.

Gidge
Gear being painted. I suspect I may have over thinned the paint a little and will need another coat before painting the silver parts. We'll see how it dries overnight.
