Sadly, yes.

But it does mean that we can now start to build up The Stash in readiness for the next one.

I'm a bit worried this might be a aimed at us Dave @Rabbit Leader ! :lalala:

Cheers Pat

I wouldn't worry too much. There can't be many left given the number of kits built in the last 5 (and a bit) months

Oh I don't know. I've still got a few squirrelled away for the next Matchbox Super Event. 😀

And in the meantime secondhand prices may come down a bit too. 🤞

Just say when :)…. although we don’t have that many model shops here, there’s one in Dublin that specialises in secondhand kits ( a veritable Aladdins cave I might add) and on my last visit had several matchbox kits ( I bought a meteor)

Well @Marklothat's very handy as there's a Meteor GB coming up being hosted by @Corsairfoxfouruncleaka Dennis.

He has someone co-hosting but his name escapes me.....

However it would be great to see your Matchbox Meteor in that single type GB :like:

Cheers Pat

And another Matchbox kit joins the stash!

Always liked the look of the Atlanta class light cruisers, and have never done a ship kit before, so hoping this will be a nice, simple introduction. Was great to see @davecov's nice build of this kit during the GB, and will definitely be using that for reference!

What do you all do with your completed models?

I have no room to keep them for a significant amount of time, and no desire to keep them either...but throwing them away seems kind of extreme and wasteful!

Mine go in the loft and only come out if they fit a display my club is putting on.

Well, first of all, I have to actually complete them, rather than leave them part built! Most aircraft end up hung from the ceiling in the office/man cave, but the skies are getting crowded. However, the Norseman I did for this group build will be displayed on its wheels, once I clear some space for it in a cabinet amongst my diecast Eighth Air Force models! I'm just about to start building a 1:180 USS Lionfish submarine as part of the Revell-o-gram group build and currently have no idea where that will go once it is built! Can't exactly hang that from the ceiling! I have never thrown a model away though. Couldn't bring myself to.

I have a limited amount of shelf space to display completed models (Mrs G is quite firm on that point, even though I showed her some rather nifty display cabinets the last time we were in IKEA…) so when I finished my Phantom I had to shuffle other items around and an ancient Airfix Hunter is now in a box in the loft.

What do you use to achieve that?

Fishing line and a drawing pin! One piece of fishing line, looped at both ends. This is threaded through a small separate loop pinned to the ceiling. The two loops are passed over either end of the aircraft. This arrangement allows for the plane to be hung in various poses (banking, climbing, diving etc).

** Open Letter - a much belated final word **

To all of you fantastic, dedicated and talented Matchbox modellers who have taken part here - a big THANK-YOU.

To my close friend and amazing Co-Host @JOCKNEY who stuck out this huge GB whist I was down and out on the canvas - a Massive THANK-YOU.

Neither Pat, nor I had any idea how massive this GB was going to be. The 'now completed' Build List shows an amazing array of both completed and partially started projects that cover the entire Matchbox plastic range subject matter. I hope that those who didn't quite get their entries to this GB Gallery may find the time and energy to get there some day. Those that have completed any of the amazing 227 finished entries. you have all done the Matchbox trademark justifiably proud - an excellent and fitting tribute to a company that started this hobby off for many of us.

I am disappointed with my own modelling efforts and not keeping track within the last few weeks of this GB. The reasons are varied and personal, so I won't go into any of that, however now feel there's a huge weight of my shoulders that I have now finally found some time to put some sorry words together. I now look forward to becoming a regular BM contributor again to what has to be the world's best Plastic Modelling forum.

Cheers and kindest regards... Dave Formosa-Kerr

i just want to say thanks one more time to you and Pat - and life often gets in the way so no worries on that score. I had ambitions far beyond the three I was able to finish but I’m massively happy to have got three done. The rest will continue to make progress as life allows.

This GB really helped me to just figure out when done enough is enough.

And your build list was incredibly helpful to see gaps. I bought a bunch of kits to fill some gaps but others took them on, so I have a stash of reserve Matchbox kits lurking for the next time…

  • 5 months later...

I put together a little montage of my model building this year, and as over 50% of it was Matchbox GB related, I thought I might as well post it here. Of the four actually completed builds, three (Zero, Panzer, Dornier 18) were from the Matchbox GB. The other was the Cutlass from the classic Revellogram GB.

Hope nobody minds...
