Matchbox the 50th Anniversary GB Chat

Recommended Posts

@Rabbit Leader aka Dave

Has brought our attention to the fact that if his calculations and history are correct, 2022 is the 50th anniversary of the first Matchbox (Lesney Products) kit releases. Yet another one of those great British plastic kit manufacturers now lost to childhood memories.

So anyone up for another Matchbox Classic GB ?

Cheers Pat

Pat.... you naughty little boy!

I swore to myself that I’d better refrain from future Group Builds until I can actually finish off all those silly half starts littered around the house.... but this suggestion has hit a nerve and pricked my ears! I also think it may be the third rendition of a Matchbox GB, so you’d better retitle it to #3 or “Matchbox @ 50 or something corny like that!.

Now to remind myself of what it feels like to actually finish a kit, let me delve into a spot of nostalgia and post these two examples of Matchbox’s finest.

Cheers and you’d better count me in.. Dave

Add me to the list as well Pat, I have a Percival Provost and a Skyknight in the 'Round Tuit' pile, and I think that somewhere I have a Revell re-box of the Victor. This T2 Buckeye was my only effort for Matchbox II way back in 2017.

  • JOCKNEY changed the title to Matchbox the 50th Anniversary GB

I forgot to say;

I'm still 'finishing' some Matchbox kits start in Round 2!    :whistle:

And I have some I intended to do then but never started so they might get dug out again  B)

Can I beat my personal record of builds during Round 3?   :hmmm:

Count me in, too... I’ve got several more of the cars to do including the Packard Victoria, MG and several variants of 935, plus the Stranraer flying boat if I decide to go nuts!

Seeing those bases brings back memories! Our CBK SIG Matchbox display in 2008 was laid out in just the same way...

best,

M.

Oh yes please, I will join! I have a Matchbox Stranraer which would be suitable!

Look forward to this one hopefully,

Ray

Oh, I forgot! I also have three Revell re-boxings of Matchbox Twin Otters so I will have plenty to choose from!

Yours,

Ray the forgetful
