Great to have you with us John, are you planning on painting it, or just Klear coating over the top, seeing as Matchbox have been kind enough to mold it in the right colour  ?

Thanks Pat.  My plans are nothing like that simple.  I think the body is an American specification Scirocco, with the side marker lights.  I don't like the way those marker lights look, so they have to go, which means painting.  I don't like the molded color so I'll try painting it something nicer, or at least more to my taste.

Great stuff John, I suppose you could go the whole hog, check out the VW colour charts of the era for that model and make it original  ?

I know what you mean about the side repeaters / reflectors, MGBs were similarly afflicted

As mentioned in this post:

... I snatched up some Matchbox classics on Saturday, including two of the Siskin IIIA, which had eluded me for many years. I also got the Henschel 126 today, and the Revell rebox of the Chaffee some weeks ago. And not to tempt fate, but there may be other vintage Matchbox kits being disposed of in the near future, which I would get first refusal on.

Welcome @JosephLalor

Great to have you with us.

As Matchbox covered such a wide variety of subjects, I'm hoping that we see lots of non aircraft builds in this one.

Anyone got the 1/72 convoy escort Corvette lurking in the stash ?

Cheers Pat

No, but it's just possible that sometime in the near future, I may be able to "liberate" it from someone else's.

But since I would probably never, ever have the time to build it, let alone do it justice with extra detailing, I may have to pass on it (... and buy many other smaller Matchbox kits instead).

I have a Matchbox boxing of the old Revell 1/25 Austin Healey 100-6 . Would that be eligible ? If so , it's also a bit started - I glued the body together about 20 years ago - would that be a problem ?

I assume you mean the one I posted 5 posts earlier. Seems like it was ok but mine is unstarted.

I think we can be very flexible with the 25% under the circumstances, please dig it out so we can see, and I think it's waited long enough don't you  ?

Pat @JOCKNEY just popping the 'illegibility' question here.

To my knowledge Matchbox only produced 1/32 scale Auto models in there own right, so to my knowledge that 1/25 Austin Healy is not an original Matchbox mould.

Are we allowing any kit that was marketed in a Matchbox labelled box? If so, that will allow a larger number of Revell and AMT designed moulds that were not originally part of Matchbox's back catalogue.

Cheers.. Dave

Hi Dave

I think to broaden the scope of the GB I would like to include anything that appeared in a Matchbox box.

I'm hoping to encourage lots of unusual kits we don't usually see and hopefully many new participants to a GB.

I rashly agreed to building a Privateer for this forthcoming GB, which having just finished a Stirling in the under a tenner GB, and about to start a Farman in the French Fancy GB, is going to take some explaining to Mrs Jockney on the sudden shortage of shelf space !

So anyone reading this have a look in the stash lets get some seldom seen stuff lined up for this special GB

Cheers Pat

I am shocked - SHOCKED, I say, to discover not appearing in the list.

Amends MUST be made!
Where can I send my strongly worded letter to the Editor, please? :P

No, the Heyford is not a candidate for this GB, unfortunately. That will receive it's due attention.

Wingy thing sorted. If you're going to do it then you really can't do better than PK-1, the very first Matchbox kit :) It's a scary number of years since I last built this one.

And for reasons, a Revell re-pop of the Narvik class destroyer also fell into my basket. Oops!! I really should stop now :D

Andy

I just got one of these today, in the original 1972 two-piece box without the transparent panel at the back. I'd never seen one of those boxes before!

I'm up for a bit of this 😀

I picked what must have been the 2 worst fitting Matchbox kits of them all for the 2017 GB so I think I'll look for something a bit more straightforward this time.

You are very welcome John

What do you have in mind this time ?

Lots of Matchbox experience on here to refer to, which will ensure it isn't a repeat of last time.

OK , here's a pic of the kit

Healey-100-6.jpg

As you can see , all I've done is flued the body panels together . Everything else , though largely off the sprues , is untouched .  If this is acceptable , please add me to the list of entrants .

Having just completed a Matchbox set, OOBhttps://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235095700-matchbox-176-morris-c8-mk-ii-17pdr-gun-willys-jeep-set/  which has been a overall pleasing project,   it inspired me to pick a some others of what were the Orange series 3 colour sets, that I never did any of in my youth. I suspect they were not out when I did a load of Matchbox armour, or were just less appealing than a tank.

Monty's Caravan, the M-19 Tank Transporter and Char 1b and Renault FT-17.     If anyone happens to have a LRDG set cheapish ...please let me know.

I know I also have a Churchill AVRE bridgelayer from the same batch that I got the Morris C.8 and jeep in.

And I have a Skyhawk that has been with me since, probably 1978,  one of my oldest stash queens that I still have.

I think the oldest is an Airfix Helldiver I got in Sep 77, from Woolworths,  I had the receipt for many years and it was the month I started secondary school....   I just discovered 1/48th which is why some 72nd kits never got built, like the two mentioned.

I'm mildly puzzled why I even bought the Skyhawk,  possibly because it looked neat and was in the newsagent just up the street?    I shall have to think on this.

I was also given a Fury by a friend of a friend, who'd seen my many posts on Hurricanes and liked them, and a Mirage III that was part of a load of kits I swapped for a couple of LPs in the 80's....  It was a good swap, and I was easily able to replace the LP's.

I think I have a Matchbox boxing of the Otaki F4U Corsair as well, though it might be the Airfix boxing.  Certainly one of Otaki's best 1/48th kits.

@JOCKNEY,  I've not read all the details,  but for others,  would a non Matchbox original, that was boxed by Matchbox, but not in a Matchbox box, count?  In this case as the Otaki kits kits were reboxed by ARII, then Matchbox,  (AMT or AMT/Matchbox in the USA?) then Airfix, and are now still available as Arii Microace...

cheers for letting me ramble on....

T

Hi @Troy Smith

If you can find a link on Scalemates back to Matchbox it's in.

I'm conscious to take the small armour kits for example that boxed original Matchbox kits are getting very pricy whereas the same kit in a Revell box is affordable.

Likewise Matchbox did box and sell AMT cars so that offers a wider scope than just the ones Matchbox designed and built themselves.

I hope that makes sense, Dave @Rabbit Leader was brilliant last time tracking / catalogueing the builds so I'm sure he will keep us in order.

Cheers Pat
