TEMPESTMK5
Good afternoon Last I managed to get this kit https://www.scalemates.com/kits/matchbox-40173-lrdg-30cwt-chevrolet-willys-jeep--1097074 which I thought to build for the MTO GB but I was not able to find enough time then I thought to build it for the Africa Gb or the Anzac Gb this year but I would not have the time either ... so I will rather keep it for the GB Matchbox next year .. fightersweep
Thinking about a Matchbox GB and Matchbox kits in general brought back one of those childhood memories that I thought I'd share. 1979, and I'm sitting in class in the third year of junior school. There's one problem kid who is dealt with by exclusion, and therefore is allowed to sit and do whatever he wants as long as he's not disrupting the rest of the class. That usually involved drawing, reading comics, playing with toys etc. Basically anything I'd rather be doing other than the maths that the rest of us have to do. On this particular day, as the rest of us have geography, he proceeds to pull a Matchbox Spitfire IX out of his bag, open the box, spill the contents out onto his desk and starts to build. What? I mean, what the actual? Already being by this age a seasoned model kit nerd and rabid consumer of Commando comics, Action Man, Warlord comic, this was an affront. So I keep my nose clean and have to do geography, and this toe rag gets to build a Matchbox Spitfire. I haven't even had the pleasure of a Matchbox Spitfire IX yet, so I'm eyeing him like a hawk throughout his messy excuse of a build. I'm also throwing daggers at the teacher for this huge injustice. Mr Frith. How very dare you! So his Spitfire get's finished and I begrudgingly accept that he's managed to make it look like a Spitfire. No undercarriage mind you, or paint. Just the Matchbox brown and green plastic. I'll even concede that too. Then he's off to the class room sink for some water to apply the decals. I'm watching intently. He even seems to be doing ok here, with noticeable quick references to the back of the box. Then, he does it. The underwing roundels are placed on top of the horizontal stabilisers. No! No! Nooooooooo! I actually leap up mid class, run across to the sink area and promptly try to point out the error of his ways. He looks at me as if I'm mad. He maybe right. Mr Frith tells me to sit down and get on with my work. I am fuming with indignation. To this day, I still get triggered by the thought of those underwing roundels on horizontal stabilisers. It also confirms that I was a rivet counter at the age of nine and perhaps that I need to relax more. Therefore, I may have to throw a Spitfire IX into this GB as well. 5

Black Knight
Some stats; Matchbox II, 2017 I entered 12 kits I finished 7 I didn't / haven't finished 2 which were started in the GB I never started 3 kits On 09/03/2021 at 19:51, Black Knight said: I forgot to say; I'm still 'finishing' some Matchbox kits start in Round 2! And I have some I intended to do then but never started so they might get dug out again Can I beat my personal record of builds during Round 3? Looking at my stash spread sheet I have just enough complete unstarted Matchbox or Matchbox re-issues to meet my previous build score but, I have some 'scrap' Matchbox kits, mostly missing canopies and small parts, and if I include those plus the non-starters from Round 2 I may just have enough to try to beat my record. But to be really sure I think I need to buy more Matchbox kits

Off the top of my head there's a Matchbx/AMT 1.16 scale Ford Thunderbird and '57 Chevrolet Convertible that have been waiting a long time for an opportunity like this. There's more, but I'll have a go at keeping things almost achievable for a change.

Redstaff
Hi Pat @JOCKNEY I may well join in with this one as I'm sure I've got a couple of old Matchbox kits in the loft. I think Lightnings F6 and T55 for sure and maybe more, keep meaning to have a sort out but always find something better to do I've gone off building wingy things at the minute, but I love the nostalgia builds, so I'll be up for a quick OOB build to join in as the banter and reminisces from all those years ago is great fun, so add me to the list please Cheers Ian
