Cyber-Hobby 1/72 Sea Venom FAW.21

Recommended Posts

After the disaster that was my Mustang I'm going for something completely different.

This will be an OOB build. So let's see how this one goes.

Suez beastie - ooh yes, looking forward to this! I really need to do a few early jets and perhaps this will be the catalyst :)

Take it easy, mate, and come back with a fresh outlook and heart!

Kindest regards,

Welcome in.

That's a lesson I won't forget in a hurry.

Should have known better....... Tamiya Extra Thin, Microsol and Microset. Harrumph. 😱.

Cheers,

Alistair

I know how you feel Alistair, a while ago I had an accident with a bottle of primer, luckily no traumatic but enough to come up with this idea.

All my thinners/solvents stored in an old shortbread tin.

Sad I know, but the labeling helps an old *art like me  LOL.

Now why didn't I think of that.......

I think our minds must be too highly trained, Majikthise. 😉

But it's not the storing that's the problem. It's when you take it OUT of the storage area that it gets knocked over!

I'm not sure how bothered you are about accuracy but the wingspan on this is off to the tune of the width of the tip tanks. If I remember correctly the fix is to shorten the wing by that amount and then reattach the tanks which sounds simple enough but I think some rescribing will be required too.

I have one in the stash so will be following along with interest.

I keep the bottles in there when using them, + any thinned paint when using them as well. Saves old clumsy fingers LOL.

Hi Duncan,

Thanks for that but you're talking to the man who built a Trumpeter Sea Vixen straight OOB

Some things I would do everything that was needed but others.......

You're more than welcome aboard.

Alistair

Yep, life's too short and the stash is too big to worry about most things.

Paints used were Xtreme Metals Aluminium, Steel, Burnt Metal and Jet Exhaust.

Then I broke out the Colourcoats Light Admiralty Grey.

Excellent,  it's got Sea in front of it and EDSG on it so I am in.

Great start , I have not seen one of these kits built, although have heard about some errors such as span, top of fuselage shape , but being a modern kit  I imagine should go together okay.

Good luck

Thanks Chris,

I'm hoping it'll be reasonably straight forward but knowing my luck.

Great progress, Alistair, and the jet pipe in particular looks brilliant!

Excellent!

Thanks Mark,

The engine and and most of the tailpipe will never be seen. :D.

A nice and steady start there Alistair.

The tail pipe looks great.

Simon.

Thanks Simon,

It's a fairly easy thing to do with Xtreme Metals.

Great start. I like the exhaust - very effective :)

Thanks Ced,

None if it will be seen of course.

Tried a dry fit of engine to fuselage last night and nothing fits.

Had to shorten the middle of the engine, sand down the intake tops and lop off the location pins. The fuselage will now close with a bit of persuasion.

As I said nothing will be seen anyway.

So, here is the truncated engine in place.

I then did some work on the Ejector Seats,

GGHvvK7.jpg

The IP was stickered last night and some Krystal Klear was placed over the dials this morning.

W7IQj6Z.jpg

It's still drying.

Last night the control column pinged off into that paradise that all lost pieces wend their way to and so I just bent a piece of brass tube and stuck that in.

It probably won't be seen anyway. I put a piece of masking tape on to simulate the handle but it doesn't appear to like paint much so will use some of the boy's green stuff putty when he's using it later today and fashion one from that.

Once everything is dry I'll give the cockpit a light dry brush and wash and it'll be time to start sticking bits together.

Thanks for looking,

Alistair

Looking great Alistair and moving on at pace now.  Seats and engine look great.

Cracking work

Chris

Cheers Chris,

I'll keep plugging away and see what else I can stuff up.

Looking forward to the final paint though as EDSG and Sky Type S is a beautiful combination.

Cheers,

Alistair
