Pappy
I have a question regarding the underwing pylons included in the 1/48 Airfix Jaguar RAF GR.1/3 boxings The underwing pylons moulded integrally with the dual bomb launcher seems to be shorter vertically than the pylons moulded to the outer stations, i.e. the PHIMAT and ECM pods however, an online search of Operation Granby/Desert Storm Jag pics shows the inboard pylons with (fitted with bomb racks) look to be the same size and type as the outer stations? Is this correct? Have Airfix cocked up? I am currently working on the 1/48 Kitty Hawk Jag for the Gulf war GB I want to use the Airfix pylons on my KH Jag as the provided pylons are the ADA style and unsuitable for an RAF machine and it would just be easier to swap these out, cheers, Pappy
Phone Phixer
Definitely an issue with Airfix's sizing and molding of the pylons. Inboard and outboard pylons were the same height. Picture from BM's walkround section on the Jaguar. There was a thread somewhere, where it was said the Airfix pylons are undersize. But they are the only examples of tandem beams out there. With a little bit of sanding, the Kittyhawk pylons can be made to look like British ones. Last photo a bit blurry, sorry. Rob.
Pappy
G'day Rob, The Airfix kits also include a pair of empty pylons, I think I will remove the undersized pylons moulded with the tandem beams and graft on the correctly sized pylons, cheers, Pappy
