KRK4m
Usually the Turkish M47 Pattons involved in the infamous 1974 invasion of Cyprus are presented as painted Olive Drab overall. Meanwhile, the specimen captured by the Greeks clearly wears a two- (or even three-) colour camouflage pattern. Has anyone seen a diagram of this camouflage somewhere, or even a photo of this M47 from other sides? Any help will be warmly appreciated Cheers Michael
John Tapsell
That looks more like it's been repainted by the Greeks as the camo scheme is very similar to their National Guard T34-85s used during the same period. The location of the bridge classification symbol is in the same place as the T34s and it looks like it may have a Greek registration mark (thin white rectangle on the glacis - can't see any numbers or letters on it though). 1
vangos
It was painted with a three colour scheme similar to M48A5/M48A5 MOLF as you can see in these photos: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.377910738962172.94355.368563859896860&type=3
KRK4m
OK, Vangos, but these M48s are Hellenic, aren't they? So John is right to say that this camo on the M47 was applied by the Greeks after being captured. In other words, it still appears that all Turkish M47s were in the plain OD. vangos
Hello, Michael. Yes, you are right about the M48. Also the Cypriot AMX-30B2 had the same three colour scheme. When it was captured it was painted in dark olive drab. Dark olive drab with mud:
