Platz 1/144 A-4E Skyhawk (x2)

Recommended Posts

Good evening mates,

this is kit(s) I'm joinning this GB with - simple but reasonably well detailed Platz A-4E in braillescale. Box contains 2 kits, so as @Enzo Matrix would say - let's build them all! :D

Decals are given for 4 aircraft - I chose to do the middle two:

- VMA-211 Wake Island Avengers

- VMA-311 Tomcats

See you soon in "work in progress" stage...

Hi Srkirad,

these Platz A-4s have earned rave reviews, so you should build two little wonders.

Have a lot of fun.

Thanks mates, looking through the parts, I saw their number is not so big, and having cockpit basically a ejection seat, I presume assembling will be pretty straightforward.

Painting is also simple - having done 3 Tomcats in 1/144 recently, I'm used to this scheme now :)

Probably the biggest work on these two will be placing decals, as there are a pretty decent number of them on the sheet.

Cheers,

S.

These little fellas were a bit on "standby" during last month, due to finishing some other projects, but I did some work on them, so here is the current state - all the main parts assembled, and ready for cockpit painting, and inserting of ejection seat(s)...

Maybe there is some small repair work on few places, but overall this is not too far from primer phase....

Today I've painted Grey upper surfaces - Gunze FS26440, lightened with few drops of white for middle parts of panels, so preshading is a bit more emphasized now.

Next step is gloss coat before decals...

Nearing the end... Decals are positioned and protected with a coat of gloss varnish. I'll wait few days for gloss coat to cure, and then do some subtle wash.

Yeah, decals are really tailor-made - I was pretty surprised how precisely they fit onto their place, although I did have to repaint antiglare area mid part because decal halves didn't touch at the center...

Nasty part was on VMA-311 (WL) bird's tail - red stripes were ALL separate decals, so it required a bit of concentration and patience :)

Finish line! They would be finished before old deadline probably, but 2 week GB  extension came very well for easy finishing of these two "key rings" :)

Well they look fantastic!

As Chris says above, if you didn't know that they are 1/144 scale I would never have guessed it.

You have achieved two excellent builds that have been very nicely painted.

Thanks for having taken part in the GB and producing such excellent models.

I’ll echo what the others have said above.  They can quite easily be taken for much larger scale, very well done!
