The west wing
Hi, I'm trying to work out what the notch is on the leading edge at the base of tail is. I have tried to find photographs but can't work out if its a vent or a light. Any thoughts?
stever219
Either a cooling air intake or artificial feel unit feed IIRC, standard on all proper Lightnings. Edited March 1, 2021 by stever219
aerotechi
Assuming it’s like the F56 in which case it’s a cooling duct intake for the alternator and generator located left side just in front of the stab.

F56 ? no such version The export models were F53 single seat and T55 two seat trainer. but yes its cooling for the Alt and main genny. Used to crack too just inside the intake thats why you'd see jets flying with natural metal in that area.
