Looking  good paul, just out of curiosity does anything else of the hobbyboss kit fit the hasegawa or vice versa?

Seems like quite a few bits do actually Glynn.

the hump from the HB kit with a little nudge fits beautifully.

I’m half considering using it to avoid doing all the cleanup on the Hasegawa hump.

It’s just that it looks a bit wide and bulbous next to the Hasegawa unfortunately

Yay they arrived really rapidly and they look brilliant!

i’m in the wonky process of trying to make this drop tank rear end. Its a piece of rounded ovalish styrene with a bunch of sprue goo.
I think chopping down next to the red line and the outer shell thinning. Would have been easier if I had done this before closing the tank 🙄

I might try it again with a hobbyboss tank.

thanks craig 👍

well, a wee update from here

we have an aircraft like-thing emerging now

51050474041_4c823712dd_b.jpg

going by my references (theres quite a few examples actually) where i wanted some (manuals / maps / circuits / newspapers / airfix instructions / the daily mail / porn magazines?) "paper material" to be sat up front

51049796963_303a7aaec9_h.jpg

51019488666_f6a710b648_b.jpg

so i started out printing my own landing strip diagrams

51050596707_c4b2328f6d_b.jpg

they looked, well, rubbish (mainly due to my rubbish printer i think)

so then I cut little squares from the instructions themselves

51050596702_d54afdec58_z.jpg

I think this worked out much better as an illusion

51050512571_bd09a26762_o.jpg

so i have used them.

51050512586_c1f4a96da4_o.jpg

in other news, I’ve attempted to fix hasegawas faux pas and elliminate the step with styrene.

thats ongoing right now.

Thanks chaps.

I have been working on the hobbyboss kit, as a break from the hasegawa.
The cockpit i have put together oob, but I scratched the yellow hoop at the top, I also made seat belts from tamiya tape painted, with buckles from some old PE, and I made the cylindrical oleo type units at the top from unused plastic parts from an old kit.

51059490092_dac71d6b0e_b.jpg

I was fairly happy with the result considering how basic the hobbyboss cockpit was.

However in the meantime I had a disastor with the hasegawa.
The canopy split. This is in part due to the aires cockpit being too wide for the kit even with trimming. The canopy couldnt stretch. So that renders the hasegawa kit a paint mule. That darn aires cockpit was a nghtmare from the start. Here it is (its montex mask in black)

51058682868_029aefb453_b.jpg

Its such a shame I had all the stepless wings sorted as well.

So I’m really dissapointed and can’t be bothered with the hassle of trying to get a replacement.

51058682883_8fa8b10959_b.jpg

Comparing the two cockpits now the aftermarket is definately the best so i may pull out the chair and fit it in the hobbyboss with of course the maps.

On other new the smallest magnets I could get are a touch too big for this scale, I will have to save them for a 1/32.

so onwards with the hobbyboss!

That Aries cockpit really has turned out to be very expensive hasn't it Paul.

Are you sure that you can't get a replacement canopy for the Hasegawa one? There are vac form ones available. It just seems such a shame after all the hard work you have put in.

Yeah its a been a right royal PITA.
a Vacform might still be problematic Craig with the slightly wider than normal fuselage.

The hasegawa kit is so nice I would like to build another at some point.

I don’t think the cockpit is good enough to present it like that craig, draws a lot of attention to it if I pose it open.

But I will consider it. Raiding Another hobbyboss kit for more weapons and its canopy might be the same price if so.

I think that the cockpit is perfectly good enough for you to have the lid posed open.

Hey craig i could use the canopy from the hobbyboss if i pose it open 🤔

A vacuform canopy would also be a lot thinner, so it might fit where the kit one wouldn't.

I like your thinking! But what will you use on your HobbyBoss kit?

Thats a convertible 🙂

i’m thinking of getting a second hb kit for the weapons too

and for the engine fan part that was melted

Oh bugger, I've  got to admit paul I've  made a start  on my  hase m ,although not  posted up yet, i too got the resin cockpit set and after seeing your early progress(trouble) decided not to bother ,i got an eduard pe set instead and cherry picked the less troublesome resin  parts, shame yours  came to that conclusion, but like craig says vac form m canopys are available,to rescue it in future

I think you made the right choice Glynn. The hase kit is superb and I’ll never use aires again ever.

With eduard PE it should be awesome.

well with mine, I’ll be brief gentlemen.
It’s page 3 of this thread and I’m only just finalised a cockpit and joined the fuselage.
It’s all sat in a hobbyboss a-4m.

The hasegawa is dead after finding the canopy front cracked too. A Cursed Aires build.

Aires seat, hasegawa pedals, kit everything else

Fuselage halves joined (which went beautifully) and airbrakes installed (a good fit after just a touch of fettling)

Fuselage to wing test fit looks very promising

I took up running a little while back.

Yesterday I decided to run off the Aires frustration ruining the hase kit build and set a new personal best for 10km. A good thing from a bad thing 🙃

Nice work Paul.

The cockpit looks very good, and the Aries seat from the Hasegawa build sets it off a treat.

If you haven't already fixed the wings in situ would it be possible for you to fit the Hasegawa wings onto the HobbyBoss fuselage which would solve the slat issue, if you were going to deal with it.

Good job with the running, not something I have ever been good at and certainly not now.

Not a bad idea craig.

The two wing set ups are near identical. Theres definately some copyright questions to be asked with these kits. 🤔

the only fit difference is the upper wing to fuselage requires some drastic action.

so I’ve gone for safe, I don’t want another aires / awkward fit situation ruining the build for me...

Yes very interesting with the fit of several parts , it seem's a replica iwata micron airbrush and this kit have, "maybe "somthing in common

I can attest the airbrush is a cracking buy for £28

Wouldn’t mind seeing a link where you found that Glynn @Hewy

Well I’ve been progressing with my skyhawks.

I’ll give a photo update soon when they are both primed and ready for preshading. The A4-m is in this state now.

The most interesting thing to see right now i consider is my mk.81’s. I’ve stippled them to give a thermal insulation texture, i think it worked pretty good. I need to smooth it out towards the rear though, I’ve run the texture too far back to the fins.
