I was on the Melbourne on her last deployment with sky hawks embarked. We lost 2 aircraft on that trip extensive initially it was thought to be engine failure, but further investigation pointed to a catapult problem. The remaining aircraft suffered the indignity of bein transported on low loaders through Sydney in the middle of a Saturday night.

Build Thread: End of an Era - RAN A-4G Skyhawk

 

Almost 1.5hrs to spare!  This one has been on my want to build list for quite some time.  Timing didn't work out for the Aussie/Kiwi GB, so I'm glad I was able to sneak this one in here.  This is actually a salvage build.  I picked the kit up for $10 at a yard sale from a shop near Seattle a couple years ago.  It looked like the prior owner got started on the resin cockpit and never got much further than that.  With how well it fit when I first started messing with it I would not be surprised if they just got frustrated that things weren't just going to drop in place, threw the bits back in the box and abandoned it.  A few other debacles entailed throughout the build...mostly attributed to me...including misplacing the sprues for the gear in w/ the OV-1B parts.  I assumed they were missing so by the time I had found them I had already committed to a gear up build.  Oh well.  All in all I'm pretty happy with it.  I'll finish up the base later and will update the build thread w/ those pics once it happens.
