The build for this can be found here:

WH660 was a Canberra B2. slated for fitment of the AI.18 radar (Intended for Thin-wing Javelin and used in the Sea Vixen) to be used in trials of the Vickers Red Dean active radar-guided air-to-air missile.  The Red Dean was rather ahead of its time and was cancelled before the conversion oh WH660 was complete.  However, WH660 did receive its long nose and used extensively by the RRE at Pershore for a variety of avoinic and radar experiments until about 1970.

This represents WH660 in its converted state but including scratch-built Red Dean Missiles.

The pylons were scratch-built and use a chequerboard pattern used by another Canberra that was used for Red Deal launch trials.

Tail assembly incorporating vortex generators (a feature of some long-nose Canberras) plus the @canberra kid patented tailplane modification.  I will have to do something with that demarcation line behind the tail!

Really nice modelling. That’s probably the most attractive of the Canberra colour schemes. I don’t know whether you have the book ‘Black Box Canberras’ (looks to me that you probably have) but there’s a really good account of the Red Dean trials in there on WH660, WD935 and WD956.

Thank you all for you very kind comments.  This one was a bit of a struggle at times and, as always, I can find a thousand things wrong with it but I much appreciate your comments and encouragement.

Right now, I'm building the 1/48 Airfix Gnat and I feel like I'm slacking!

Thanks again 😀

Cheers,

Neil

A lovely kit to build, what scheme are you pondering over?

Well, there's a good question.  The kit has, as standard a very nice LAG / Dayglo red scheme and that is a distinct candidate although I keep wondering about going for the same scheme but in silver.

I am open to suggestion!

Cheers,

Neil
