Motorsport of the day

Just a thought but what about starting a thread dedicated only to the WRC 2023?   Since that is the main but not only topic of discussion in this thread. Then I/others can avoid it until I've seen the event highlights and therefore avoid spoilers, whilst continuing to post about other motorsports in this thread.

So Ford has today announced that they will return to F1 2026. Rumoured partner is Red Bull. So no own team.

Autosport story: Link

Red Bull weren't keen on a  partnership with Porsche as they wanted too much control,  apparently.  So obviously if Ford come to F1 with their usual half hearted approach to motorsport in general , that will suit Red Bull  !

I know theres been a big event on in Sweden , but here in beautiful North Yorkshire its been the Riponian Rally today . Lots of the entry were cars I've posted on here before , but here's a few that took my fancy . First rally of the year for most , so the preparation of the cars was exceptional 👌

It's taken time to develop this Fiat , but it's a match for the top Escorts now and sounds sweet

The East Riding Stages based in Beverly using closed tarmac public roads to the north west of Hull ran today.  Only the second running of the event , the entry was brilliant  , 160 cars nearly half top spec R5 / R2 cars , mostly well driven Fiestas . Some other nice stuff though

@Windy37 Gary...can you point me at a link? Have a place to stay, and could book in now...

best,

M.

Trackrod Rally Yorkshire is 22/23 September. Friday night will run in Dalby in the dark. The Rally always attracts a huge entry due to so little use of Dalby , only once a year now.  Service area start / finish will probably be Filey,  it has been for a couple of years now.  Hope you can make it over .

Out in the suburbs of Tokyo, a good 45 mins train ride from the centre *and* a 30 minute walk from the train station is Mitaka Subaru Dealership. But this dealership has something extra. Rallying royalty in a special showroom upstairs. Original vehicles, not replicas.  Not many but it makes up in quality what it lacks in quantity.

The also have a 22B, number Zero. And inside it smells like a new car.

There's also the SuperGT winner BRZ.

Incredibly, they'll let you sit in the cars. And then volunteer to take your photo. Which I'm glad about as Mrs GalaxyG had passed on this experience so I made this trip alone.  Here I am in Colin McRae's Impreza. If you're looking at these pics then I'm sure you can imagine how special this was.

What's more they'll open the bonnet and you are free to open any doors and crawl all over the car with a camera, so I have a lot of reference photos now for when I build my Tamiya Impreza 99 or the Rally Australia Legacy.

This is part of the massive selection of trophies they have on display.

Downstairs is a fairly ordinary if large Subaru dealership. With some fairly ordinary Subarus.

Rally Australia Legacy.

Any chance of sharing the interior pics of that please (pretty please??!! :) ) - I've recently been looking at my 91 RAC kit with a view to building it.

Here's everything I took of the Legacy. Interior and all. 34 pics in total, the interior ones are mixed amongst the others. What I especially love about the interior of this one are the doors. Just regular Subaru Legacy doors with trim and everything. like someone's taken your dad's car, removed the back seats, added a roll cage and then gone rallying.

Fantastic reference photos ! I think early Group A cars had to use production spec . door cards and dashboards , but they do look odd on a high spec . rally car . I wonder how many new panels and repair work the Legacy has had in its lifetime  ?

Exactly what we used to do - except it usually wasn't dad's car we actually bought our own - Mk1 Escorts were as cheap as chips (nearly!) back in the day!

Those pics are superb, many, many thanks for posting them! :nodding:

Guess I'd best start the kit then!

Thanks again
