I just got schooled as to why the WRC will (probably) never come to North America (in my lifetime anyway).

King of the Hammers, North America's 2nd largest off road racing event,  (Baja 1000 being the first) boasted an attendance of 100,000 + this year!

Rally Croatia expects 350,000?      😧😠😩😭

Sigh...............

Maybe a miracle will happen 😶

And there I was thinking the Olympus Rally had only stopped being a round of the world championship "a few years ago". Turns out it was more than a few...

Been to a tarmac rally at Cadwell Park today . Using the race circuit in a variety of stage layouts , there was a great selection of cars from top spec WRC s to bottom spec 1300s . Here a few choice photos

Mk1 and Avenger for me Gary! :)

I couldn't get to see what engine was in the Avenger , but it went and sounded well . The Mk1 was really tidy , prepared by Motorscope from Northallerton.

The Safari this year looked so tough , Vesa . All that fine dust was playing havoc with the cars , the conditions looked worse than the marathon Safaris of old . Great result for the Kings of African rallies though . I think young Rovenpera will be a dominant driver for a while now .

Unless a dose of Evans-like 2022 bad luck comes his way, I'd say Rovanperä is in line for his first championship this year. That Safari Rally did look a tough one. Nice to see some mud at play along with all the dust.  Made me think of weathering.

It's probably controversial for me to say (  being a Brit ! ) , but I  think Elfyn has fallen into the Latvala trap ( now his boss ) in that his team mate and rival for the Championship is just a better driver . Elfyn even admits Kalle has developed his skills so quickly at this level  .Without Kalle , and better fortune , Elfyn would be walking to the Championship this year as the other teams aren't really up to speed with these complicated new cars . Ford seem to be relying on Loeb too much and Hyundai's reliability is just terrible .

And what a stylish rally car it's transporting! (nice Le Mans green Mex on steelies next to the van too!)

Some lovely machines there Gary, thanks for the pics! 👍

I was there also. Quite a collection of ex-works cars in the DirtFish collection.

The Le Mans green Mexico was owned by Phil Wylie from new. I know him and the car from the AVO Owners Club. There was a copy of the original bill of sale from Clark’s Cars in the front window - £1115.

I saw the bill , too Nick . The un  modded Mk 1s were proper Q cars of their day .  I like how Steve Rimmer of Dirtfish likes his cars driven hard , the M3 especially ! What a noise ! Shame the Audi broke , again the noise when it was working ! It's a long trip for me (3 hours) but was worth it .

I was in Uni with a guy in the motor club who had a three month old Le Mans green Mex. His would have been more expensive as he'd specced it with the RS clubmans pack - half cage, RS bucket seats, full harnesses, sump guard and two Super Oscars - ready to rally from the dealer! It had black stripes and Minilites too. Really coveted that car! (my rally prepped 'built Mex' cost me £350...!!)

Wish I'd known the event was on, CC is only an hour and half from me. But then I spent all day yesterday watching the live stream of the Goodwood Revival from start to finish....!! :)

I think it was Bath Motor club that hosted the Escort.  They had lots of good stuff on display , Richard Burns 2001 RAC Subaru included.

It's the first time I had attended since  2017 , what with it clashing with my local Trackrod Rally ( next weekend BTW ) and Covid .

As I mentioned it was the Trackrod Rally Yorkshire at the weekend , based in Filey on the coast and using the under used North Yorkshire forests there was a huge entry of 180 cars of all eras . Also the final round of the British Rally Championship , won by Osian Pryce in a VW Polo R5 . Here’s some photos I took at the finish .

Rare sights on loose surface rallies , Mini and a Midget .

Great photo's,love the 131 brings back great memories of the late 80's....

It's took some development , but the 131 is now on a par with the best of the Escorts in Historic rallying . Matt Edwards is a top driver mind .

Ironically, on tarmac at least, the 131 was always superior to an Escort back in the day....

Great looking car too!

It was Keith  , and people forget that . Nick Elliot was in an Alitalya liveried 131 , but broke before I got a photo .

Just to clarify  , I mean the modern historic spec 131 Abarth took some development and is now capable of beating the top modern historic spec Escorts !
