Roden Gladiator MkI 1/48

Recommended Posts

To keep company to Marcel Belgium Hurricane, here is the Roden Gloster Gladiator belonging to La 1ére Escadrille, La Comète. I have used the Part photo etch set, Quickboost wings MG gondolas, Rob Taurus canopy and the magnificent SBS engine and nose panels. I had already built two of these and I thought I knew where I was going! Wrong! She fought me hard, but really hard! It's probably time to take a break. As usual no decals but masks. Salute to the Belgium pilots who fought against all odds with those obsolete biplanes against the Me 109 and 110. Best regards.

Having done both I will say that the old Pyro/Lindberg can be turned out in a pretty good kit with the Airwaves photo etch, which I used, but that the Roden being more recent is much more pleasant to do. The after market sets available for the Roden help saving time and give a more accurate look to the details.

- What always puzzle me is your hability to use masks for painting roundels and insignas. Are you one of those happy owner of a Silhouette, or like, machine ?

- I  recently received  a REVELL Glad in 32 that itches me .....

Yes Jean-Mi I own a Silhouette and I could not do without it from now on! It really makes a big difference in the quality of the finish and on the unity of the weathering. I did learn all by myself, and I know some tricks which are helpful. I avoid decals and use them only when the machine limits show up. Cheers old man!
