Mk1....!!! I knew of the MST Mk2, not seen they were doing a new Mk1 though. will have to start buying an extra lottery ticket from now on....!!

they do look like quite good value, considering.

''Cheap'' considering how much a Grp 4 build from someone like Mark Solloway's Historic Motorsport can go for (one of my son's fellow motor club member's had one built by him a good few years back -probably about 2010 - which allegedly cost well over £100K then!)

And just look what original Mk1 & 2's are fetching now....

There won't be too much in it compared to having someone else rebuild an original car from a base model donor;  https://mst-cars.com/models/

£69,995 plus VAT at 20% only gets you the basic "touring model". A Group 4 build is "from" £89,995 plus VAT... and their ultimate spec is from £98,000 plus VAT...

All prices are the same for either the Mk1 or Mk2 shell.

Like I said, not bad value in context, even if the actual figures are scary. Still would though. 😀

Me too - one of each! And the spec of the car Jonny Smith tested would do me fine - apart from the motor it's about the same spec as the last rally Mk2 I built (which cost around £3500 all in....!!) from a 1600 Sport - and I'd have my new Mk2 painted the same - Vista Orange with 1600 Sport stripes!

I would want sun visors though....!! 🤣

Oh yes - 2 Super Oscar driving lamps and 2 Oscar fogs - just like the good old days!

I was more an Apollo man myself, the Oscars & S.Oscars were so everybody has got them. The Apollo's looked the ducks guts on the front of my Anglia Van, even better on my Mk 2 Escort sport, not so good when that got writ off by some dork in a Falcon ute on the wrong side of the road. :( Given the readies, I would have a Mk 1 Mexico with 5 speed box & be happy now.

Fly me ro the moon.....

Sorry Steve, but never heard of them - unless they were Hella's? Those were the only others I recall around at the time. The good thing about the 'so everybody (and their dog!) has got them' Cibies was it meant they were dead cheap second hand ! :)

I'd have one, but the cash isn't there. Makes me weep though for the recently restored Mk 2 Mexico I bought in 1994 for £1500.....stolen six days later. One car I wish I had got to know a little better, but those six days were a lot of fun.

I had a Mk2 for three years from new starting around 1978/9.  It was an ok car though I don’t recall it with any great affection unlike some other cars I’ve owned.

I always fancied a drive in the RS2000 to see what that was like

I suspect there old adage never go back might apply to the drive experience

Depends on what Mk2 you had - I had two rally prepared ones and a bog standard 1600 Harrier. I'd have any of them (or preferably a brand new MST one) back in a heartbeat. I loved driving any of them (or the many preceding Mk1's I had) more than any front wheel drive thing I've had since! :)

If I recall it was a 1600 GLS which had a decent spec for the day Keith.  It was a bit floaty to drive hard but comfortable enough and a decent car for its time.  Just nowt spectacular.  I suspect the full fat enhanced ones were quite different.    An Astra GTE that had been "tickled" a bit came next and then a Sierra XR 4x4 followed as the Cosworth was regrettably out of budget.

My comment about not going back relates to a drive in a Jaguar E-type taking it to a classic car auction as a spare driver for a dealership moving several "classics".  It was not a modern drive and hence my comment about never go back.  My present ride is a Jaguar F-type.  Bags of power to the rear wheels and not a moments relaxation as it will break away at the slightest provocation even in a straight line with new tires and a correct set up.  I'm a tad old for that much excitement and my previous car - a Merc AMG with four wheel drive was way more fun to drive hard and fast on twisting roads as you had confidence the back end would not try and make for the adjacent field before the front end

The  1600 Sport I had that got written off was followed closely by another bought with the insurance money, both 1980 models. I really did like them, it was just a shame they lacked a 5 speed box, it would've made the longer trips I did way more relaxed.

The son of a local to me plant hire company owned a brand new Escort Harrier.  While a digger was moving around the yard , it's bucket fell off and landed on the rear of the Harrier causing it to be written off .....
