Thanks John and Adrian :)

Losing it a bit this afternoon :(

Dry fitting the rotor head shows that the shaft is the right length:

…but that would mean a butt joint in the top.

Nasty.

Let's have fun drilling holes and trying to fit some nickel silver rod:

Patience gone.

Better leave it until I calm down!

Good idea, it's looking far too good to take a final flight against the wall....!!

And I'm feeling exactly the same about Telford..... :(

Looks very good Ced, making all the right moves, all the right decisions

Suits you sir, suits you

I have never been a 'washer'* but seeing the way this pops after treatment I might send off for some to try out.

Suitably weathered, Ced  Smart choice about the rotor head

Ciao

Thanks Giorgio :)

To be honest I had cut the rod to poke into the bottom of the fuselage but trimming meant it ended up too short.

I also had to trim the kit shaft to get the head at the right height.

Plenty of CA on the join and in the hole so fingers crossed :fingerscrossed:

Loving the detail that wash has brought out and that’s some very cunning work on that rotor head. Looking very nice indeed Ced.

Thanks Rob :)

Same here Bill, then I saw what Johnny and Giorgio achieved and decided to give Flory a go.

Easy peasy - slosh it on, let it dry then rub it off with kitchen towel or cotton buds 'to taste'.

One tip - I use kitchen towel, lick it, rub a bit off then fold it over and repeat.

Don't forget to fold it before you lick - otherwise 'to taste' ends up more true than you'd want.

Ask me how I know :D

One hangover from my time in business is a visit to 'the desk' before bed to prepare for the next day.

Old habits are hard to break…

Last night I decided I should paint the PE and bits ready for the morning.

Imagine my surprise when I checked the clock to see it was 2am!

It was only this morning I realised the clocks had 'sprung forward'.

Happy Summer all!

Here are the bits gathered together:

This morning I fiddled with the remaining tiny bits for the rotor head:

51078179806_787a6ed501_z.jpg

51009108250_c17589fa8e_z.jpg

No idea if that's accurate, but it's too small to see anyway under normal circumstances.

Honest.

Nose wheel has been tube glued on:

I did consider a pin but hey, once the thing's glued the plastic is welded and I don't plan to knock the thing anytime soon.

Regrets, I've had a few, but then again I doubt it'll shift.

Note the 'jaunty angle' - very hard to get it lined up straight so I gave up.

Main wheels next.

Then varnish coat - satin I think.

Then masks off.

Then the bits I can knock off will be glued on.

The main blades are a tight push fit so they won't be glued.

Once they're dry I'll flat coat ready for a Flory wash.

As it worked amazingly I’ll just say this as a “Do the what now?🤔 ”  Now I might be wrong. I usually am but I’m pretty sure you do a Flory wash on a gloss coat then mat coat afterwards. Makes it a lot easier to fix any cock ups.
Either way Mr B that rotor head and the whole thing really is looking rather splendid. 🙌🙌🙌

Bravo. Right suitably revved up I’m headed to the bench.

Now, this becomes tricky.  Yes, you do the wash on a gloss coat, so that you can work it out to stick only where you want. However, if you push this a little further, you can also do another wash after a  flat coat; you need to be very selective and precise, though, because that will not clean up as on the gloss coat. In turn, it will add a nice halo in selected spots.

Tests on scrap parts are highly recommended, here.

Exemplary work, that is turning out very nice!

Thanks both.

Ah, now then, that's my fault… again.

I thought I remembered 'wash on a matt coat' but obviously not :(

Gloss coat, gloss coat…

Nice ‘Fly!  The rotor head / drag dampers are particularly impressive, given the raw material.  Lovely job

Oooh, thanks Crisp. Great praise from the chopper master :)

Coming together nicely Ced, not far to the finish line now

Any thoughts on what's next?

  Stay safe                Roger

Thanks Roger :)

Not ready to start anything else just yet but it's likely to be something for the 453rd.

And big.

Main wheels on.

That was fractious, even with tube glue.

Perhaps I should have used some rod but I can never get the holes in the right place :(

Satin coat applied:

I tried some of the perdu recommended decal sheet for the blade tips:

51078976821_9ec33074d4_z.jpg

Couldn't get it to bend and settle.

On the main blades I tried Decal Strong and, sure enough, the decal melted, but not where I wanted it.

Drat.

In the end, and as forecast by Ian, I brush painted them with Hu24:

Masks off next - yay!

I'm not going to say "I told you".

Oh, wait erm, maybe I just suggested it "could be a possibility"?

Nice save though!

The Dragonfly's had it's jabs then?

Love work Ced.

Jabs, prods, pokes, shoves, you name it! :D

Masking off, blades on:

Just a few bits of PE to attach, then I'm done.

Phew.
