CedB
A quick look at the internals before they're gone for ever: Now, that fit. This is what you get: …if you want this: … but this still taunts you: Only one answer in my book - lots of TET and many, many clamps: I'll leave that to dry and see what we have later.

Ex-FAAWAFU
Clamp-tastic! I don’t think you can have too many clamps in your toolkit (but I have two 1/48 Airfix Buccaneers in my stash, so I still won’t have enough)

Biggles87
Getting there thanks to the clamps. That almost rhymes. I never did watch series 8 of Game of Thrones, I started to lose interest mid way through series 7. Must be my age. John

Narrow, oddly shaped parts like the front u/c mount on the Dragonfly. Everything I have slips off (fnaar!) including the 'clamping tweezers'. Any ideas? CedB
I have my Father-in-Law's photo as a desktop picture - my usual method of seeing too much detail. This morning I noticed the bare shaft (oooer Missus): …connecting to the tail rotor. Can you see it? It's the only thing I've been seeing for a while. Wished I'd seen it before I glued the fuselage together. Nothing for it but to… Stew taught me to 'stroke patiently with a sharp blade' for this sort of thing. As you know, I STILL don't have my bottled patience, hence the micro-saw and chisel. It's off now. Looking forward to the fun of scratching a little gearbox. Not. Clamps are off. Giorgio's dry-marker test showed up the issues as usual: Mr Dissolved Putty, thinned with TET, applied: Luckily I noticed, just in time, that the gap on the rear of the main fuselage may be intentional to represent doors, so I've left that. If it's NOT supposed to be there please keep it quiet, there's a good chap. More sanding later, then I'll mask the windows. 15

Oh, and lots of sanding. 3 hours ago, abat said: That’s some seam that you’ve conquered Ced. Can I ask what type of clamps they are. I’ve not seen them before. Thanks abat The clamps are 'Berna clamps' and I love them. The carbon-fibre rod and soft jaws mean that you can press the jaws together to give just the right amount of hold, or squeeze tighter to clamp. They don't do 'high pressure' but then I don't usually need that. Recommended! Seams filled and sanded: Now I need some masking mojo.

Other times it's just a drag… 13 hours ago, TheBaron said: The TET offensive! Blimey! Thanks Tony. Offensive. One of those words that has to meanings eh? Viz: - causing someone to feel resentful, upset, or annoyed. - actively aggressive; attacking. I know you meant the second meaning but it's been a week here where both have been relevant after 'the interview'. I don't want to start a row but I must say that I find the people on 'the media' who are ranting about being the former seem to be the latter too. You'll have to excuse me this morning - see next post.
CedB
I was woken by the storm again last night, this time at about 4:30 Couldn't get back to sleep again so sloped into the man cave for a while. Stupidly I thought I'd do some bleary-eyed masking: Not my best work. I realised pretty quickly that this wasn't going to go well so just 'made a start' that I could trim later. Later this morning I started the 'proper job'. Took out the 'canopy survival kit' as usual and, as usual, found nothing that helped BUT the packet also contains all the left-over masks I've had. Some of the wheel masks fitted nicely in the corners (too sharp for turning tape) so I punched out some more: I'm making this into a big job aren't I? I'm hoping it'll be worth it…
Biggles87
I see what you mean about the night time masking, good idea with the wheel masks though. The storm hit us this morning and has been pretty fierce so far, horses remain in stables and shutters closed on windward side of house. Stay safe. John Thanks John The storm here seems to be going on and on - three days of high winds, rain and even some hail. I hope it clears soon - the forecast is promising a 'brisk NW wind' up to 20mph. Rats. 17 hours ago, giemme said: Fancy masking, I like that idea Ciao Thanks Giorgio - of course there will be gloss on the edges! 14 hours ago, perdu said: ordered What? The rescue set? CedB
Finally: The edges look a bit wobbly due to the 'insert from the outside' but it'll clean up easily. I'm hoping I can used Flory wash to highlight the thick rubber seals. We shall see. The nose went on once I'd pushed the i/p back a bit and I need to let the canopy glue dry overnight. On to the rotors then. Not looking forward to sorting this out: Also, back here, Pat posted that the blades were much too wide: The parts are about 9mm and Pat says the FAAM exhibit scaled out at 5.7mm in 72nd. That's a lot of bashing. I'm a bit wary that this model is an HC4 and the museum (and walk around) is an HR5. I need to see if the HR5 had narrower blades than the 4. Here's hoping…
