Wez 5,898
From a weight saving perspective, I would have left as many of the the engine accessories off as possible (such as those cannular combustion chambers), but Bosse is right, the kit doesn't give you the option of not using the engine (a case of the kit designer being too bloody clever by half IMO)! It doesn't help that MiG-17s have a tail down attitude on the ground anyway, it's automatically set to teeter about the pivot point anyway! Hopefully, Bosse will have got enough weight in there to stop it being a tail sitter.

Marlin 2,517
Hi. Just a small update. I didn't have that much modelling time this weekend. But I've been preparing the wings for glueing to the fuselage. 092 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The wings had some missalignment in the mating surfaces, so I've glued some small plasticard strips along the sides so I'll get a clean seam against the fuselage. Marlin 2,517
Hi. Let's have another short update. I've got the gun trough in place. 093 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 094 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I had to glue it in stages, starting with one side, then the front part of the opposite side, and lastly at the back. And before I glued it in place I put some more fishing weights to the underside of the cockpit. I think it'll be enough to avoid having a tail sitter. And I've got the hatch covering the avionics in place. 095 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The small step in the picture looks worse than it is, but I'll have to sand the seams and use some PPP to cover the gaps. I've also got one of the wings in place. 096 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I got a good seam against the fuselage, that only a small string of PPP will cover, but the wingroots will need some work. To be continued..... /Bosse

SoftScience 4,213
I'm surprised this kit has such questionable fit. Even though HB has a reputation for accuracy errors, the kits tend to be very well engineered. Keep pushing through, though. I'm really looking forward to seeing paint on this
Marlin 2,517
Thanks SoftScience. Of cource I'll push on. I got the second wing in place last evening, (no pics) and I'll reckon I'll start to paint during next week. /Bosse
Marlin 2,517
Hi. The wings and horizontal stabilators are done, and almost all seams have been sanded, puttyied and cleaned. 097 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 098 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 099 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 100 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I have to fix the seams for the horizontal stabilators and I'll glue the guns in place, and then it's time for primer. But that'll have to wait until Sunday because this afternoon I'm going to check out from work and then I look forward to a long weekend in the cottage. modelling minion 13,523
Very nice work on your Mig-17, the fit of the parts may not be perfect but you have done a good job on smoothing everything out.

John 3,260
I'm struck by the similarities in design between this kit and the Trumpeter MiG-15s. Following with much interest. John
RidgeRunner 7,872
That is great work, Bosse. You have really tamed that kit! Martin On 3/4/2021 at 6:05 AM, Marlin said: and then I look forward to a long weekend in the cottage. Now that sounds perfect
Marlin 2,517
Hi. I'm back after a very nice long weekend in the Cottage. We came to the cottage during Thursday afternoon and was greeted with a great sunset. 101 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr On Friday we had the most beautiful weather, and that awoke the pyromanic in my lovely wife 103 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr We started to burn of all broken branches and twigs the tree's had felt during a winter storm. Unfortunatelly the winds picked up, so we couldn't continue, so we'll have to continue so other weekend. None of us felt for a fancy dinner, so we just grilled some Kabanoss, Lamb and Pork sausauges for dinner. 104 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr A very tasty dinner. Friday evening gave us one more great sunset. 105 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And on Saturday morning some of the "locals" paid us a visit. 102 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Winter deceided also to pay us a visit during Saturday evening. 106 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Thankfully it didn't come that much snow, so the trip home was no trouble. And when we got home I continued working on my little MiG. I've mounted the guns. I've cut the plastic gun tubes and drilled hole for the Master brass pipes I'll use. 107 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 108 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I'll glue them on later after I've painted the MiG. And I've also replaced the kits belly fin with a resin fin from Quickboost. 109 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 110 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And with that I can say that we'll see some primer and colours this week.
