Another Weggery Spit

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

Second build for me in this gb,  one of Lawrence Weggery's SEAC Spitfire Vcs.

I'll be using the new Airfix Vc kit and dk decals.

I hope you appreciate the following photo skills 🤗.

Although obviously Weggery was from the Antipodes, so I suppose its apt!

Like with the Beau, I've just done a bit of pre-painting and some initial assembly of the cockpit:

I was pleased with the way the ip decal settled down over the raised detail with micro-sol and -set.  It also looks very realistic to me.

Done some internal painting of the wheel wells:

Not very exciting, but hey ho.

More to come soon.

Rgds,

Some more progress on Weggery's Spit.

Like the Beau, the Spit has been a good fit throughout.  A smear of sprue soup and a splash of correction fluid is all that has been required so far.

Hi Pat,

Getting there.  I honestly thought I'd posted a recent update, but clearly not.

Here's the photo I thought I'd posted:

Camo finished.  Tonight I added the gear legs, and next will be the decals.

I did try to build this aircraft on an earlier GB using the Sword 1/72 kit.  Unfortunately the Sword markings were not very correct and I had to redo as another aircraft entirely- which was annoying as the big fern looks good.

I think I'm doing the earlier machine without the fern, unfortunately.

Started the decalling tonight.

Using these decals:

I have to say the dk decals are rather nice; thin and flexible, yet robust and not keen to curl up.

Progress continuing to be made . . . slowly.

Needs a coat of gloss to seal the decals, then some weathering.

Give or take some exhaust staining and nav light highlighting, I'm calling this done.

Nice kit, lots of detail, good engineering, although there's a certain chunky feel to the moulding.  Airfix will join the big boys if they can refine this.

That said, an enjoyable build and it looks the part!

Your model especially with the early style SEAC roundels look very striking and the new Airfix kit builds very well.  Having seen your build, and the one done by @TEMPESTMK5 and the several done by @tonyot, I have now broken my new year's resolution (not to buy anything kitwise for a year)  and bought the new Airfix Vc.

Thanks, all, for your comments.  I'll get my finger out and get some glamour shots in the gallery before it locks.

Great stuff Martin

Always great to see a Spitfire especially in a different colour scheme than the European theatre.

Cheers Pat

Thanks, mate!
