Hi Gary despite your issues with the decals that's looking superb mate 👌 👍. The headlights in particular look awesome great work mate 👍. A bit late now but i find that placing troublesome decals in hot water rather than warm water can make a big difference when trying to place them in position on the car. However you deserve a lot of credit for taking on a scheme that would test the skills of any modeller....well done will look fantastic when finished 👏 👍

Thanks a lot , Andy . Yes on my second session of decaling I tried hotter water and it seemed to help . Nice to hear from you again , and all the masking and colour changes I think have been worth it  .

It's already looking very good, and by the looks of it will shortly take another stop in the right direction once you get the body on chassis - that really makes a big difference.

Got to agree with all who said this is a challenging scheme, but you're making a good job of it, even more so when you consider the grief you've got with the decals. Keep up the good work.👍

Nice build, and it's good to see someone else agreeing my (unwritten until now) opinions about the (lack of) clarity of the destruction leaflet.

Firstly thanks for all the comments . Manta  build stalled a bit due to building work at home meaning we are upside down and covered in dust ! However , I have done a bit this week and  a couple of days off means things are moving again .
I’ve painted the interior satin black , ready for glazing . It’s amazing how much blue overspray there is considering it’s the smallest amount of colour on the car !

Doorcards fitted to interior .

The wheels are different widths , rears slightly wider . The front wheel outer rims I painted silver . I was going to buy a Molotow pen to get a chrome effect , but time passed me by on that one ! I used my liquid soap method of easing the wheels onto the hubs , and once fitted are all straight and true . I added the body for a  preview . Ride height seems a touch high maybe .

Thanks for looking

Mine are the same. I've just had a look. Got the tarmac suspension units that slightly lowers the ride height and also a set of 4 wheels and tyres, the same style as the one's Gary has at the rear, I think they may be called Ronal wheels? I intend to try and model 1986 RAC Rally if possible..

In which case Steve I'd leave the ride height as it is in the kit.

Yes, I'm not sure if they ran the cars with tarmac wheels and tyres, but a gravel suspension set-up on the RAC? I'm thinking gravel suspension with tarmac wheels and tyres myself..

IIRC the works teams might have on the, usually stately home, spectator stages, but that would depend on the weather, as they got so muddy they'd often stick to gravel or mud & snow tyres. And to the best of my recollection pure slicks have never been allowed on any UK mainland rally except possibly club single venue events, as they've always been banned on the public road, so couldn't be used on the sections between stages.

I agree about the ride height I think it's a gravel set up

I agree too, which seems a little odd given that the Jimmy McRae car is a Tour of Ypres scheme, and Francois Delacour was a tarmac specialist.

Still, for this scheme, a gravel suspension seems appropriate because the British Championship has always had several gravel events in it.

When I bought the decals from Spotmodels , a tarmac suspension modification flagged up which , i think , was by Reij and was only about €5 . Wished I'd got them now ....

The kit is a tarmac car on a tarmac rally , so maybe the Belkits boffins measured the car on axle stands  !!!

Moving into final stages of Manta build . Glass went in well , clicked into place without needing glue . I have cut the drivers side out , as I do on all my models so the interior can be viewed easier . Then I put body to chassis for the final time . Underneath their is 3 parts to add under the engine , the first a black box for brake ducts , then a smooth panel followed by the sump guard .

Somehow in my eyes the smooth panel doesn’t look right . My research photos don’t seem to show such a big part , so I think I might cut it back to make it more in line with the sump guard .  Notice also how the front brake discs are outside of the wheels .

I thought I might have got this finished this weekend , but more work is needed , so maybe next weekend now .....

Thanks for looking

It's looking nice now, nearly there Gary. That guard at the front does look a little odd? On most of the references I have, you can't actually see it. I know the instructions say to paint it in white, but I'd be tempted to paint it black myself. It looks like it should fit further in and not hang down as much? I'm no expert mind, so I'm not entirely sure...

Thanks  , Steve . It is hanging low . Painting it black would disguise it , rather like what I did on the rear of the Metro build  . Maybe it's a part that featured on the car used for researching the kit design , but I don't think the British spec Mantas used it .

It's going to be a heck of a landing off that yump....!! :)

She's looking very nice indeed Gary, that part does look a bit strange, I think I'd be tempted to go with Steve's suggestion and leave it off...

Don’t think there’s many paint tins in the lanes of the Isle of Man !
