Big In Japan - Classic Japanese Kits GB Chat

Recommended Posts

Working title which is far too clunky  !

As the Heller Classic GB has been such an amazing success and has seen a record number of non-aircraft builds completed it occurred to me that there are many different classic kits made by Japanese manufacturers that if grouped together would make an excellent basis for a Classic GB.

I can remember spending hours looking at the tamiya catalogue as a nipper admiring all those 1/35 military pictures.

So first of all a list of things needed,

1. A cut off year to define classic ( first release date so reboxes / reissues are fine) 1990 ?

2. List of manufacturers

Tamiya, Hasegawa, LS, Arii, Otaki, Bandai, Nitto, Fujimi and Aoshima ..... ?

3. List of participants

Yes, please. My Hasegawa B-17G must be old enough for this. V-P

Edit 1: @JOCKNEY those Tamiya catalogues indeed... the armour diorama centerfolds and better yet, the unbuilt but painted Formula 1 kits in the first pages :inlove:

Edit 2: Isn't Fujimi Japanese too?

Asian classic kits, 1990, & Tamiya, Hasegawa, Arii/Otaki, Bandai, and Aoshima come to mind ? Not sure if Platz, Finemolds, or some of the newer names Ive heard were around. Oh and BTW add me to the list.

Thanks Dennis, duly noted.

Me too please Pat.  I think all of my unbuilt 1/100 scale Tamiya kits date from the '60s.

Cheers

Welcome along Cliff,

The place wouldn't have been the same without you  !

Mine is dated 1989 - so good.  A B-17F dated 1987 also in my stash - I'm in.

Stash inventory on 08 Feb 2023:  £ Hasegawa Fortresses,  and

a Fujimi RAF Phantom.

Count me in. Maybe the Neptune that’s been not quite close enough to the top of the to do list for too long now will get built. And if 1990 is the cutoff there are a few others in the stash that would count too - Fujifilm CH-46, Hasegawa 1/48 Phantom and F-16, and the Orion.

Great to have you with us @bianfuxia what did you have in mind ?

Haha well more than half my stash is something Japanese, either subject or brand or both. I'll have to go digging around but I am sure I can rustle up some cool ships.
