Heller 1/43 Peugeot 203 pickup conversion

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I built this one for the Heller Classic GB . It's the first 1/43 scale car I've built and I had a lot of fun with it.

The 203 is a very shapely post-war saloon which went a long way to put Peugeot on the map.

Like I said, a very shapely car... of course, I couldn't resist cutting it to pieces when I found out that a pickup version was produced! I cut the little car in half, re-used the front section and scratch built the rear. A complete chassis including leaf springs, spare wheel, rear axle and exhaust was made out of white plastic, as well as the load bed itself, wheel wells and the cab's rear wall. The kit wheels were lacking detail so I added some "nuts and bolts" which improved the look. @Bengalensis was so kind as to supply rubber tyres which had the correct width but needed to be modified diameter wise. These tyres fit the vehicle perfectly.

Some pics of the build stage. This was the starting point:

Not for long though...

The chassis/ floor pan was also cut in half and a new rear section was built. Note the kit wheels, to which I've already added some detail, in this photo.

Load bed and cab rear wall. The load bed's floor is partly made out of wooden planks.

And the final components in primer, ready for paint and assembly. The front wheel wells were also made out of card to prevent seeing through a lot of empty space behind the front wheels.

So here we are with the final result, driven by a farmer across his land, putting all kinds of stuff in the back.

Nice work Jeroen looks the business 👏 👌. How about something with a barrel and a few extra wheels mate 😉👍

Right, and some of those, what do you call them, tracks or something? 😉

Anyway this will be my last model for a while, house move project has started, actual move in 7 weeks and after that all kinds of stuff will still need to be done... Good news: I will have a lot more modelling space!

Very nicely done (as usual). Not sure how people do 1/43 - I have to magnify 1/24 enough to see what I'm doing let alone something where each dimension is half of that.

Good luck with the house move - if I can find somewhere nice within price range (big if there) I hope to go through the same hell this year too.

Thanks Spiny. Well I also have a thing for small 1/72 scale military vehicles and suddenly 1/43 is not so bad at all 😉

Thanks again. I actually don't ever mind the whole moving thing. Especially since I will be having a really big room to myself 🙂

And no models are hurt in the move.

I must admit that is a bit of a concern! I will not let the movers get anywhere near them, I'll move them myself, one at a time if I have to! 🙂
