What do you guys use?

Alclad Aqua Gloss. I'm sure you know, but you don't want any dust around when you do this; I spray a full airbrush cup of water in my spray booth and the surroundings before I commit to airbrushing the gloss clear coat, so that most of the dust particles in the air get caught and fall down. HTH

+1 on the Alclad Aqua Gloss. Sprays straight out of the bottle, levels nicely, is touch dry in about 15 minutes and cleans out with water.

One word of warning though. Read the instructions which tell you not to shake the bottle. Goes against the grain and you have to restrain yourself.

Cheers,

Alistair

Warning.

Ced appears to be about to follow advice.

Is there a designated shelter handy?

I have seen many claims for spraying Clear, but it has always been unsatisfactory for me.

A vote for following Giorgio's advice here Ced.

👍

The use of Klear always baffles me. Sure, I'll buy 4 tubs of different brown powder at £6 a tub to use to dust tyres on my £30 1/48 Spitfire and 3 x the kits value in aftermarket. As well as 3 or 4 different brands of EGSG at £3 a pot to try to get the shade to the exact reg I'm building.

But modelling gloss coat you need for most models? Nah, just use a flooring product. Modelling stuff is overpriced.

Baffling.

Mr. Color GX UV Cut Gloss Super Clear (#GX112) thinned with Mr. Color Leveling Thinner. I was attracted by how many words are necessary to describe it. But the combo rocks - I wouldn't use anything else.

Bill

I've started using that recently with great results.  Previously I used Alclad Clear as many others mentioned above but I was not impressed by it's coverage, nor it's durability

I always go back to Tamiya TS-13 rattle can. A bit pricy but it always works for me. @giemme that water spray idea is inspired. 👌 oh and nearly forgot. The swift is looking amazing. Aaand a new build to boot. Blimey you must be feeling better. 🙌

It's looking great Ced, and glad you've bounced back.

I always apply thinned (with distilled water) Klear/Future with a brush. It self levels and dries quickly and brush marks have never been a problem.

Thanks Ali, another vote for Aqua Gloss :)

I guess shaking the bottle would introduce bubbles eh?

Good point Lewis :)

think the idea is that Klear is designed to be hard wearing. Maybe.

Aha, that's where I got the idea then Cookie :)

Sort of works for me although I sometimes have problems with pooling or bad coverage. I think I'll try the Aqua Gloss.

Bottom done (fnaar!)

Looks easy, but the serials are in three parts! Luckily the large one is shaped around the wheel doors so it's not too hard to position them.

Praise the lord, the destructions correctly depict the serials properly.

Right wing, flying towards the viewer reads from the front on approach.

Left wing ditto on departure.

Looking extremely swish in the lovely blue-bottomed attire.

(Awaits customary fnnaars from the usual sus...)

If it ain't smelly, you're not modelling hard enough!     :)  (Yeah, there's an odor but not as bad as Mr. Color.)

A bit like posh dining with the full array of cutlery - work from the outside in.

(the serial reads from the wingtip to the fuselage)

Ah, you say that John, but on closer inspection… :)

Admittedly you have to get really close or look from a specific angle, but there nonetheless.

Just over the panel lines so a quick cut with a blade and some MicroSol and it's gone.

Main transfers on:

Now just the stencils.

I hate stencils.

Just the big ones - if I can't read 'em, they're toast.

Agreed Stencils are the devils gift to modelling, but I was also born in Aberdeen and so feel like I've paid for them I'm using them.

The Swift is looking beautiful looking forward to the final unveiling.

Great catch with the serials Ced, I understand your phobia for adding stencils.

I do, I really do.

So much that I have 295ish Airfix stickers in a kit that I may just move along to the next user.

Might be you.

🤭🤭

I've got Ali's intake bleed set too...

Fancy a 'toom?
