The wing decals are impressive. thanks Pete as she never was built?, I think the Russians built an Ef-127 that blew up before take off?, its fun to play with "what could have been" the wing decals are very good and now that I've protected them with some aqua gloss I'm far more comfortable with them, one thing I need to do is to add a strip along the leading edges as they don't quite come together, maybe if I'd cut them up I could have "stretched" to gaps?, but other than that I'm very impressed with Uschi's decals. 4 hours ago, Bordfunker said: Those decals look amazing! And the pilot's name stencil would be "Jakob Kirch". I do not care for these Luft 46 "secret projects" at all - normally. But your build of this bird is really fascinating. Well done! shortCummins
To make take-off possible using it’s own power, the aircraft could be loaded onto a wheeled trolly, there’s one supplied in the kit, and additional power was supplied via four Schmidding rocket boosters. Fitting these boosters is an option, one that I want to exercise, as normal, for me, these were given a coat of UMP/Stynylrez black primer. I wanted to show that these were “additions” to the airframe so I’ve given the brackets a coat of Xtreme metal 481 polished aluminium. These were masked and the body of the booster painted X-10 gun metal. The booster direction nozzles will be fitted to the boosters only after they had been attached to the fuselage, to ensure correct alignment however before that I’ll need to do some weathering. Next, for a slight change of pace, I’ll be painting starting on the takeoff/taxi trolly. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)

shortCummins
The frame of the take off/taxi trolly was given a coat of UMP/Stynylrez brown primer. After a coat of hairspray it was then given a coat Mr Hobby color H70 RLM02… …and then lightly chipped. When, I really recommend you getting this kit, you come to build the trolly, there’s a couple of things to watch out for. The fit of the towing ring is very very tight… I should have fitted it before paint, but because I fitted it later I had to trim back some of side of the “ring fixture”, nothing major but a slight “oh bugger” moment. The other thing to watch out for is that I think the instructions is wrong, I’ll find out when I try to sit the air frame on the trolly! Anyhow, the instructions call for part 39, I think it should be part 38? Part 39 is a “washer” shaped piece whilst 38 is a “cap” with a D shape on top, the fuselage tail fitting has the reverse “D” shape, so it makes sense to me that part 38 is used?, I’ll let you know if that’s correct. The wheels were assembled and then sprayed UMP/Stynylrez black primer. Having applied the primer it was them obvious that the seams needed some attention so I slathered the offending parts in sprue-goo, cleaned them up and resprayed the primer and then sprayed them with XF-86 rubber black… …the walls of the tyres were lightened with, appropriately?, XF-63 German grey. This is a subtile effect, difficult to see in the photos but it makes the tyres appear slightly worn. Once the wheels were painted the ribs were used to run some Tamiya black panel line. Tamiya brown panel liner was used on the wheel hubs. Next I’ll finish assembling and then weathering the trolly. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)
Biggles87
I will definitely invest in one of these at some time, so the tips on assembling the trolley will be very useful, thanks. I recently discovered Tamiya XF-86 and it's become one of my favourite tyre colours. John

John Hi John I've since discovered that the instructions are correct, I didn't read the manual fully!, if you're building the Ef127 than you need part 38. rgds John(shortCummins)
Biggles87
Ah yes, the curse of the ‘ advanced modeller ‘ not reading the instructions fully. Instructions! We don’ need no steenkin’ instructions. ( loosely adapted from The treasure of the Sierra Madre and Blazing Saddles ). 🤣 If I’d read the instructions for my Alphajet correctly I may have avoided one of the major fit issues, the airbrakes. shortCummins
Once the wheels were painted they were assembled and fixed to the trolly. The “steering” wheel was assembled… …seams tidied, sprue-goo'd, and repainted… …and then added to the trolly. So I should have used the RTFM mantra, (Read The Flaming Manual) and then I’d have seen that Part 38 is used when building the Ef-127 version, so this is how Part 39 looks when fitted, RTFM Cummins, RTFM! Rust streaks and general grime was added with various oil colours. Next I’ll be putting the landing skid together. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)

shortCummins
The “insides” of the landing skid needs to be RLM02 grey, so I first needed to mask the area… …and then sprayed Mr Color H70 RLM02 The “moveable” parts of the landing skid were also given a coat of RLM02 and then the “pistons” were picked out with mig steel. Now that all of the component parts have been painted I need to wether the skid workings, I’ll do this after a gloss coat, but first… Next, I’ll be adding some decals. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)
shortCummins
As this is meant to be an “experimental” or “test-bed” subject airframe there are some decals to be added, no insignia will be used for this build. Now I’ve not seen this before but Das Werk has supplied some coded stamps for different aluminium alloys so I’ve added some of these, well it’d be rude not to wouldn’t it. Did I mention that the decals are printed by Cartograf? Aluminium coded stamps. VDM (tail surfaces) There are two different types of VDN codes ART Krupp Berndorf ENZ Also supplied were the “Werk Number”. Different panels also have the number “30”. Next I’ll be protecting the airframe and decals with a gloss coat in preparation for some light weathering. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)
