Bruce Archer
Hi! I am building a grey schemed Lightning F.6, XR726, coded "DF" of the LTF. I do know the upper color is Medium Sea Grey, and the lower color is Light Aircraft Grey. But the side color is BDS4800.188.21 "Grey". Does anyone make it? Does it have a FS number? I have the MSG and LAG in Humbrol, but need the side "Grey". Thanks for looking Bruce
Hook
Might it be a misspelled BS 4800/18B21? This was Squirrel Grey, a shade rather similar to Barley Grey that was used for a short period of time when Lightnings started going grey. iainpeden
The 3rd grey in the scheme was Barley Grey which is Humbrol 167. The problem is that there were a number of variations in what was called the medium grey schemes with different demarcation lines. In addition once medium sea grey and barley grey started getting dirty and faded the 2 colours were tricky to tell apart. I have a picture of DF in Richard Ward's book about the Lightning units. It looks like the demarcation line between MSG and BG is in line with the wing; it's not clear about the LAG demarcation but the whole a/c looks very grubby. scotthldr
Wasn’t the LAG only on the undersides of the wings?
