The Battle of Najera ... not!

Wee Bertie has been nudged forward quietly this week. Lunch break shading got grey tone no.3 onto the "surcoat front upper" today (the plus-side of lockdown home-working).

Sun shone at the right time and made the conservatory more habitable.

Will put the rear upper's no.3 on tomorrow, then try and apply no.4 to everything on Sunday before the Six Nations kicks off.

Have a good weekend, folks.

A couple of progess shots taken this morning. One hour is all that's tolerable in there, after which my fingers and toes are howling for relief and concentration begins to suffer.

There'a long way to go on this figure.

So many creases; I have to keep referring to other, completed figs done out in white attire, to be sure of not overdoing the shading.

Next job is applying the current tone of light grey to the surcoat above the belt.

Ever-shorter and narrower applications, drawing the shadows deeper into the recesses and interfaces.

Still not 100% sure how this going, but will find out eventually.

Inside, second-coating the "polished steel" embellishments.

Just basic painting indoors; no toning cos the light isn't adequate.

A bit more shading (a quicker job now: shorter lengths of darker grey).

Plus second coat of tan leather.

Warmer in here. Can last longer...

That's paint on the tissues. No cause for alarm...

Fitted some more shading into the lunchtime break. I think the grey tones are done for now.

Will paint the buckles and any decorations during the week, tidy any overlaps up, and hopefully be ready to recommence daylight shading at the weekend. Belts and straps next.

More desk lamp evening slapping-on of basic colours. Buckles and associated metalwork/leather.

Getting close to there just being shading left on this project. Although it dawned on me that the base was still bare metal, so a primer coat of dark earth got over that first hurdle.

Just need to decide what colour it should be.

That's probably it, as far as basic colour application goes. Aside from the base, which really needs to happen last cos my fingers keep rubbing the paint off the edges.

Now it's all about continuing with shading, then highlights.

And the shield.

Interfaces between belt and surcoat this morning. 2.5 hrs.

Remarkably therapeutic (although there were a couple of minor errors to correct next time).

This set (Pegaso) is absolutely beautiful quality and well worth the cash and effort.

Full marks to them.

The Italians make lovely figure models and walking boots.

And food.

Shame their rugby team isn't hitting the mark.

First tone of shading applied to the tunic. In a freezing conservatory, with awful light. So it was a mechanical, methodical affair, painting a line of very (very) pale grey onto a recess, then softening the edges and moving on to the next one.

Am now hoping it all worked. Thank god the contrast was minimal: more room for error.

Fingers tingling as they thaw now.

No photo: too dark.

I know the feeling well. Our conservatory has been absolutely Baltic for months now. It's only been almost bearable this past week or so. Still, at least it provides plenty of decent natural light.

Yeah. Frigid this morning, which made painting a bit of an ordeal.

Better this afternoon.
