TonyOD
There are aspects of scale modelling that interest me that aren't actually building the models, in particular the Psychology of the Stash, upon which I think there is a doctoral thesis waiting to written. There's rarely a week goes by that I don't add another kit to the pile and I certainly won't ever build them at that rate, and my stash is miniscule by comparison with some of the hoards I've seen out there. I must exercise restraint. The other thing I have to try hard not to do is be a serial starter and have loads of builds on the go at the same time. I'm determined to get it down to maximum two at a time (plus a long-term background project I've got going on.) Just curious as to how many live projects people have at a given time? Skodadriver
The answer in my case is far too many. I usually aim to complete 10-12 models a year but something that is finished this year might have been started 3-4 years ago. I've just done a quick inventory with the following results: In paint shop - 3 Primed and awaiting painting - 1 Awaiting primer - 1 (a strip and repaint job following earlier problems) Advanced build - 3 Intermediate build - 1 Early build - 2 Stalled - 2 I'm actually surprised it's "only" 13, a situation which will undoubtedly change when the Zvezda Boeing 757 hits the shops later this year. One 48
About 8 here, some are so close to be finished too, just an evening on each would finish them to my satisfaction I would think, the final hurdle, just adding those little details that make it a finished model are always the hardest for me.
Tzulscha
How many? Well, all of them actually. Say, a few thousand. Conservatively...
ckw
This year paint has been an issue, since most of the time I have to order it online. For postage reasons I tend to bulk up my orders ... but then more often than not, one or more colours is out of stock. So the model gets put to one side (and of course I start another one) Cheers Colin
lasermonkey
Actively, eleven. Temporarily put to one side, about twenty. In storage, awaiting completion, well over a hundred. I'm not a completer.
Ray_W
I am a bit different. I usually have one kit as WIP. I was not always like this. It is a habit I forced upon myself and since doing this my completions and level of satisfaction has risen markedly. Any issues that come up need to be resolved before starting another and I try to not let myself get dragged away to the next kit. Also really helps with all those final details that sit there waiting to be added. I have to get them done to reward myself with a new build. Also great when you're busy with other things in life. You can leave the current build and then come back and pick up where you were at quickly and easily. I put the idle time into researching the next build ensuring I have what is needed. The exception is a themed build like this time last year when I was doing a comparison in the builds between Airfix and Italeri Ju-87's. Both went ahead in parallel. That does not mean that I am not adding to the stash, which I do. I have now changed my perspective on the "stash". It is a "collection" and quite nice to have all those kits packaged up as original. It is a separate hobby in itself. A collector's hobby. Will it all be built? No chance! Do I have a nice collection where I can select something to move from the kit collection to a finished kit. You bet! Although, often that choice kit will stay as original because the latest and greatest new tool will come out and supercede the earlier version and I'll build that instead - still, one kit at a time. Mr T
I find that I can only cope with about three kits at various stages of construction or painting. I think it helps with the mojo as I am not looking at a pile of stuff thinking 'where do I start?'.
Whofan
Currently 4 wip, 3 1/72 scale aircraft, and an 1/32 scale afv. Two F-5e's, Italeri and airfix, to do as Austrian airforce livery. The airfix has some slight differences to the actual F-5e as used by Austria, but in scale, with the addition of a little plasti card, some filler, some sanding, it might look more like the Italeri one than a wrong 'un. Then I have an airfix Mig 15 in Korean War livery, and an airfix SdKfz250/3 Greif in 1/32 that I bought in a charity shop which I found was part started, so I decided to carry on with what had been done. Then, I've got 2 builds to put in sci fi RFI, and after the above a tank, a bike, another Austrian airforce livery plane, or perhaps I might change my mind and go for something different. I'll try however to keep it to no more than 2 on the go from now on because at the moment I look like a patriot missile launcher with too many targets - my arms move around picking up and putting down models then I go into sulk mode (too many incoming) and put a DVD on Edited January 30, 2021 by Whofan

I hear you. I’m not a fan of that bit. I’m all about the broad strokes. 8 hours ago, lasermonkey said: In storage, awaiting completion, well over a hundred. What, started? Yikes! I like your thinking, @Ray_W. My two WIPs are going to be composed of one for a GB, one of whatever I fancy doing. I’ve started a second GB build but put it aside and vowed not to touch it until my Spitfire for the Heller GB (nearing completion) is put to bed. Corsairfoxfouruncle
Three on the desk Three waiting to go on group build start dates. I usually have 3-5 going at any given time.
spitfire
I'm a slow builder and usually plan to build three kits in a year, so I usually have only one on the go, however when I get to the paint stage I like to leave the paint (enamel) to cure before masking and adding more colour I also always paint markings instead of using decals so this slows the process down even more. So when I get to the paint stage I start on the next kit, mainly research and detail painting. At the moment my objective is to build three PCM 1/32 scale kits, a Tempest, fabric wing Hurricane and a Spitfire IX, the Tempest is in the paint shop so I'm doing prep work on the Hurricane.
