How to deal with a doodlebug!

Recommended Posts

Hello modellers.

How to deal with a doodlebug!

Took a little while, but finished another Airfield diorama in 1/48.

This time its April 1945 and with the war in Europe drawing to an end. Spitfire Mk.IXe 'Joan Too' sits outside her Hangar at RAF Twente. The Luftwaffe has all but been defeated in the sky and a captured V1 flying bomb (also know as the doodlebug) is shown to some new curious Dutch young pilots as their senior pilot Wing Group Capt. C.F Bradley demonstrates how RAF pilots would 'wing tip' these new terrifying weapons, hopefully causing them to crash into the countryside without civilian loss of life.

Worked out very nicely & the shed really looks the part.  The Spit is rather nice too.  I just like seeing an aircraft in a setting rather than just there on a white background.  And the detail really makes it.

Thank you mate.

Same here, aircraft particularly with wheels down seem to want for a little scene to set them off. Even just a tuffed of grass paints a bigger picture.

Love the details, hangar looks great too! What did you use for the concrete?

Riley

Thanks Riley. Much appreciated mate.

The concrete is roofing felt. Glued it down to some plastic 5mm foamxboard and stacked some bricks on it for about 2 weeks (did a whole bunch of them at the same time). Cut the panels line with a craft knife and preshaded, weathered etc. Watch out for the black tar. It gets everywhere.

Same technique used on some of those pictured below. (P51, P47, P38, B25)
