There are several different boxings, have a look here: https://www.alleycatmodels.co.uk/alleycat-aircraft-kits-148-scale-322-c.asp I think there might have been a resin kit from Argentina too. shortCummins
I didn’t apply a gloss coat before applying the decals, its something I very rarely do and so far I’ve not had any problems with silvering unless the decals are really thick, I’m looking at you Tamiya! I’m not sure how I damaged the under wing insignia?, luckily once she’s up on her feet no-one will see it. These decals were really nice, not too thick and settled down with minimal use of micro set. Next I’ll be giving her a coat of aqua gloss before making a start on the weathering. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)

shortCummins
While the varnish cures on the the airframe I decided to make a start on the weapons. The kit provides a number of options for the underwing load-out. I’m going to use the fuel tanks, so I’ll not be using the Snakeyes as they take the same slots, I’ve also opted for the AIM-9p, no real reason to choose these against the AIM-9L’s or bombs, I just like the look of them. The pylons and fuel tanks were given a coat of UMP/Stynylrez black primer… …followed by a marble layer using Hobby Color H306 gray… J …and then a mist coat of the same colour. For a change, the AIM’s were painted with UMP/Stynylrez white primer, Stynylrez makes several colours of primer, black, grey, white, brown and others… They were masked with a mixture of Tamiya tape and Mr Masking Sol. The warheads were then given a coat or MRP-149 gunmetal. Next I’ll be sorting out the undercarriage… until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)
shortCummins
Landing gear wheel supports were given a coat of Extreme Metal aluminium. After a base of UMP/Stynylrez black primer, the tyres were given a coat of Tamiya XF-85 rubber black and then the ‘inner” part of the tyres misted with a thinned coat of XF-24 dark grey. The wheel hubs were painted with vallejo metal color 77.701 aluminium. Next I’ll be making a start on the weathering. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)

shortCummins
Looking at the box art it would appear that the wing fuel tank caps?, at least I’m guessing that that is what they are, should be red, so I masked them off and sprayed them. I started the weathering with a couple of mig panel line washes, first was 1612 green brown for the green camo’… …followed by 1613 blue grey on the rest. The effect is quite subtile and doesn't show in the photos very well for some reason, please take my word for it that "in real life" you can see the panel lines if you look, so in a small way they've worked because their subtile and I didn't want them to be "in your face"? Next I’ll be adding additional weathering and exhaust stains. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)
shortCummins
Before applying more weathering I added the wing pylons as I think some grime would accumulate around these. The idea is to end up with a reasonably clean aircraft, unlike my “usual WWII subjects” which were “battle weary”, however I’m a firm believer that any aircraft will get dirty once she’s wheeled out of the hanger so some muck and dirt is required. I started on the underside by applying a couple of dots of 502 Abteilung ABT002 sepia and ABT007 raw umber and then blending the paint with some odourless thinner and a stippling brush. Further dirt was added with a darker oil colour ABT510 starship filth. I wanted to simulate a couple of hydraulic leaks with an orange(ish) colour so I used ABT020 faded dark yellow and ABT092 ocher. Next I’ll be making a start on the weathering on “top” of the aircraft. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)

This can be a long as 28 days but, depending on operating conditions and washplant availability they can be 'called forward' to be washed early. Dirt can/may cause the surface finish to deteriorate, which can lead to corrosion. Not good.

shortCummins
502 Abteilung ABT005 smoke was used as the base for the exhaust stains. ABT002 sepia and ABT007 raw umber was used to add grime along various panel lines. Adding extra oils and blending was carried out several times. Next I’ll be assembling the propellor. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)
shortCummins
Both the spinner and blades were cleaned and prepared for paint. Propellor blades and spinner were given a coat of UMP/Stynylrez black primer. Tips of the blades were masked… …and sprayed with MRP-004 white. The spinner was given a coat of MRP-125 super clear semigloss. Decals were applied to the blades. For some reason this photo made it look as if the blades were very patchy/scuffed, they don’t look it “in real life” however I decided to give them a coat of semigloss just in case. Once the clear coat had cured all the parts were assembled… …then dry fitted to the aircraft. Next I’ll be adding all of the little bits and pieces that I would have broken off if I’d added them earlier in the build. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)
shortCummins
Before I can attach the remaining fiddly bits a couple of items needed some decals slapping on. The AIM-9P’s had some coloured bands and instruction? labels Landing gear doors had some words… …probably along the lines of “WARNING keep your hands clear as your fingers won’t grow back!” In Portuguese? The nose gear has a couple of landing lights attached, to better represent these I used my RP Toolz “Big Punch and die set” to make a couple of 2.2 disks from some underlay joining tape. I decided that I couldn’t be bothered trying to clean-up the kit supplied exhausts, their fit was very iffy and cleaning the seam lines inside and out was too much effort, for me anyway, so I got a set of Quickboost resin exhausts, QB48612. After primer, these were first given a base coat of MRP-149 gunmetal and then the ends nearest the engine were given a light coat of Extreme metal AK484 burnt metal. These were then fitted to the aircraft. Next the canopy handles were added. Landing gear next, rear… …and front. Lastly the machine guns and underwing stores. Next I’ll be removing the masks and getting her ready for inspection. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)
shortCummins
Final bits added and canopy unmasked, she’s now ready for inspection. Here’s a sneak peek...
