MB339CB RNZAF - FREMS 1/48

Hi, after some thought I finally decided to enter another GB :wall:  :)

I got hooked on the green green black scheme used on the RNZAF MB-339s, still used in an aggressor role, now in France with SDTS / SECAPEM / RAFAUT

I ordered decals from OLDSMODELS in NZ, hope they will arrive in time!

in the meantime I have enough to do in respect to plastic modelling :)

colorwise it seems to me they are very close to the German NORM 83 scheme used on the Tornado IDS.

that is what I got: a Frecce boxing without decals

and some Eduard PE

the plastic is really nice!

a pitty that this kit is that hard to get nowadays....

cheers,

Werner

Ive not heard of that particular model company before so will follow this build.

thanks Dennis!

FREMS is of course an Italian injection molding company, that did afaik exactly one kit: The MB-339. There are 2 boxings available, one for the Frecce Tricolori and one for service maschines around the world. Plastic is I think the same.

for  those unfamiliar with this kit, I made photos of the sprues (and the included metal cannon barrels  :inlove:)

n9USPkZ.jpg

by the way, it look like there is a defect on the cockpit tubs... hot demolding? will be correctable ;)

Edid: also the right fuselage half seems slightly affected :(

qjuRbsQ.jpg

you get a full load out like tanks, rocket pods, and cannon pods,  and flaps

and some details:

look at those rocket pods! :)

great cannon barrels! look like DEFA ones, like on the Mirage F1/ 2000

and the rather old Eduard PE:

will be handy at places I guess!

Hi Werner,

The RNZAF Macchi's were not Green/Black, but were Greens/Grey.

I know this,, as I have been up close and personal with them when at Whenuapai

This photos shows the grey to good effect

That looks a bit ugly Werner, I hope you can sort it as I'm rather keen to see this Kiwi bird come together, I did like the look of them in their day with us, the Euro 1 scheme, which I think I'm right, that they wore, did suit them well.

Steve.

joking, of course

I sourced the fuselage from a second kit... no issues with this on now :)

I simply did not fancy to correct this part here in the GB.... th ecockpit to tubs are suffient to correct I think!

That looks to be a nice kit of a lovely type. Good choice Werner. Shame about the warping to the fuselage part but hopefully you're able to fix that one in the future.

thanks, I do hope to receive those decals in time,.. NZ is a bit critical these days!

oh, don't worry about the fuselage.... it is fiaxable with a bit of effort. I also have a resin fuselage for the CD model somewhere.... so I might even have a spare one for a future build!

you know, that's why a way to large stash is a good and necessary thing :D

G'day Werner,

That kit is something of a unicorn and very sought after in second hand circles. I was  lucky enough to snaffle one for a reasonable price and the kit is very nice, I even managed to find a PE set for it. I look forward to seeing it come together. It reminds me of the old Esci (now Italeri) Macchi 326  kit wrt quality. Excellent fit and mould quality but simplistic cockpit detail

cheers,

Pappy

This should be a pleasant build.

Re OldModel decals he is good and often a fast turn around too!   Have used them quite a bit now.
