echen
Some more work on the running gear. Looks a bit weird without the hull but getting toward some colouring to finish off before weathering the rest.

echen
And then the start of some muck thrown up round the hull.
echen
Nearly done. Need to add the hull MG, some mud round the sides of the glacis where it comes off the tracks and the periscope lenses. And maybe a little extra colour variation in the grime.
echen
Bit late in the day to notice this- But the MG port is not the rectangular aperture that is normally found on Panthers. There is only an mg barrel to add into the recess rather than a part to depict the top rim of the hole. (Remind me not to get any more Hasegawa kits.) I think I'm probably going to have to try and fix this or its going to bug me exceedingly.
Lummox
The ball mounting for the MG is fine for a Panther G @echen. The 'letter box' style was only in place for the first variant (confusing the Panther D). The ball mounting was introduced on the next variant (Panther A) and retained for the G. Good build by the way - nice and dirty 👍

I'd planned the work and it was going to be tricky existing paintwork-wise. But now I can just finish the weathering and the few remaining odd tasks. Much obliged to you.
echen
Looking at my Panther with a view to pressing on with it I concluded that my post about the mg port error wasn't as clear as it might have been. a) its got a load of mud in it, and b) the front face of the ball mount continues vertically to the top of the dome which I didn't explain very well. On a proper model it's different. and on a real one So, rather than repeating the rather iffy gun port I settled for on my JP (and later regretted because I didn't correct the step in the armour over the port.) I think I need to remove the mud and address this as the port should not extend to the top of the dome in the glacis. echen
Roses are red, Violets are grey, Got the wrong colour, Never mind aye? Made a start on correcting the mg port. Scraped out the port Then added a 2mm x 1mm plug of plastic card. And sanded it a bit Before a lick of BROWN paint on a GREEN camouflage stripe! The camera is unforgiving as usual and it is now apparent that I need to sand and fill a little before correcting the colour, blending the port in some more before adding the mg and sighting hole to the ball in the slot. echen
Final repair steps. First some filler. Then some rubbing down and some green cam. A step in the right direction, methinks.
echen
Almost there, I think. Added some more grime, painted the periscopes, such as they are and matt varnished the mg port. (The supplied mg looks more like a 30mm cannon.) RFI at: Edited May 24, 2021 by echen Added link to RFI
vytautas
Looks good! It seems to me that the dirt is too embossed, if it were smaller, and pigment finer, then the scale of the model would feel better. Vytautas

I'll have to be a bit more sparing with the sprinkles in future, or start building 1/16! BTW thank you for all your "likes" through this build. I sincerely advise not to use a 1/16 scale, it seems frivolous. Scale 1/1 is, in my opinion, much more promising Vytautas
