John Masters
Let's try this one again...so far I am 0-2 wit this GB. Can't build the Jag...no decals yet. Can't build the Hind...wrong variant. I think this one is alright... Sprue... Clear bits... Nice looking stickers... My chosen profile... How about it? --John
Chrisj2003
“Chopper popper”? Paul’s doing it in 48th. Definitely was there. Interesting difference in decals. Chris
John Masters
And I begin oh, so slowly...Note that the seat cover is supposed to be painted 'B'. An 'B' is this... I thought, well, that's snazzy. I guess 'Flat Guards Red' is the new term for 'Olive Drab' as this is what FS 34084 really is...Some fun! Anyway...the cockpit IP pieces primed. I assembled the ejector seat and will paint it up later. The decals went on easily and I slathered the solvent and then some varnish so they stay put. John Masters
Some small works, getting the cockpit ready, weights, etc... The instructions say 30gms for nose weight. This s 25. I think I can slip in another 5... The cockpit came together well enough. It looks the part. The decals help. The A-10 is a much larger aircraft than I have ever thought. I would say that it is much larger than the Su-25 but it is only 3 feet longer. Yet, it is much heavier already at 25,000lbs to the Frogfoot 10,000. Must be that gun. Next to a Piper Cub... --John
modelling minion
Off to a great start on your A-10 John, that cockpit looks very good. Sticking the Piper Cub fuselage next to the A-10 one really helps to show the size of these beasts.

John Masters
Sorry for the blur. 30gms and hammer. Still 30gms. I hope to be able to squeeze all of this beneath the cockpit in the nose. --John
John Masters
Through trial and error I discovered that it is best to attach the underside of the nose (panel b--circled in red) to one half of the fuselage first. This gives one a better understanding of where and how the seat is supposed to fit. Then one can also see all the gaps that can be filled with 30gms of lead. \ God knows. This will probably come back to bite me on the rear. --John
modelling minion
Looks like a good way to find out where to put the weight John, shouldn't be a tail sitter at least.
John Masters
The weight is in, the cockpit secure...time to close it all up. This took a bit of finesse for some reason, mostly to do with the underside of the nose and adjusting the edges, etc...There will be some light filling with PPP and a bit of sanding polishing needed. --John
John Masters
I decided last night to assemble the motor. A little gunmetal mixed with smoke... While that dried I assembled the big wing. This took a fair amount of clamping, taping and others finessing the thing so the ended were tight. I am pretty sure I got most of it. There was plenty of space and I was able to test fit the fuselage. Quite sizeable wing-root gaps. Photos to follow anon... --John
rob Lyttle
Hi John! I'll be interested to see what you can make of this one. I'm really fancying doing the Academy version I've had for a few years. Gotta love the Fairchild A10!! Mine unfortunately has "Op. Iraqi Freedom" stickers, featuring Captain Kim Campbell's ride. So I'm looking enviously at the copious sheet of options Italieri have furnished you with...... 👀 Are they all viable Gulf War choices?? Do you have plans for the lot, or would you like to get rid of some.....?? Tell you what, I'll send you a pm shortly...... That would be more appropriate 😎👍

I think I might send some of the decals to another guy, but only for the A-10C. I'll see what I have left over. The kit tis good. It's my first A-10. Big sucker.

John Masters
I apologize for not posting recently. Adult issues regarding Greek bureaucracy and home ownership tend to sap my energies... In any case, I have attached the wing and the tail feathers and I have given the big General Electric TF34 motors some primer. Once the wings are set I will add this section. Note the significant gap in the wing root. The same can be said for the port side. I think I will use Milliput instead of PPP to fill these gaps. --John

John Masters
Gaps filled, motors on. Really looking the part now. A few more pieces and I'll be ready for primer. While I had some Milliput mixed I also filled in the gaps on the Piper Cub over at the ANZ GB. Wow! I never think of the A-10 as a large aircraft, but it really is. I'll have some better images of the Cub for that thread... --John
modelling minion
Your A-10 is really looking good John, very nice work mate. Definitely an aircraft I need to build at some point, especially as I have two of them in the stash!
