Airfix 1/48 Hurricane MkI, Jimmy Gardner, 242 Sqn

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

this is my Airfix 1/48 Hurricane MkI. It was flown by a FAA pilot, Richard ‘Jimmy’ Gardner of 242 Sqn. Based at RAF Duxford in August, he served alongside Dickie Cork and Douglas Bader. The kit was rivetted and I sanded down all of the proud fasteners around the cowling and nose. I then used a jewellery  tool to better create the dzus fastener.

it was masked and sprayed all over with the serial from the spares and the Nelsonian flags underneath the cockpit (England Expects that Every Man...) came from Xtradecals set. Sadly they used the wrong codes (T) and did not provide a serial so one of the Britmodeller members on here, Tony Walton supplied the information.

Having grown up in Pompey and loving the FAA and Nelson, this was a kit I’d wanted to do for a while.

All sprayed with Colorcoats which now seems to me my go to RAF/FAA paint.

I think some Ultracast exhausts were also used.

Thanks for looking.

Gorgeous Nick,.... well up there with the best Hurricane`s I have even seen and your subject choice is a fantastic memorial to those Fleet Air Arm pilots who volunteered to fly with Fighter Command during the Battle.
