Luftwaffe JaBo F-104G Starfighter from 1985 which exhaust cone?

Hello!

Managed to get Hasegawa 1/72 F-104G (kit 00447) affordably.

I have read that exhaust cone (afterburner) was changed on Lutwaffe Starfighters but do not know which model to which model.

I would like to do JaBo 26+30 in Norm 83 from year 1985. Do I use the part A2 (shorter) or E3 (longer) for the exhaust cone?

Is there something else I should know about the airframe details?

Where can one get 1/72 decals for then Luftwaffe Norm 83 aircraft codes? Preferably ones with perfect register of colours.

Cheers,

Kari

The exhaust cone was changed in the mid '70s as part of the J79 smoke reduction package  so for an aircraft in 1985 you need to use the longer one.

For decals I would check HaHen, they have a number of sheets for Luftwaffe Starfighters and also sheets with numbers and crosses in various sizes. Not cheap unfortunately

Astra Decals has a Luftwaffe Starfighter multisheet which is very comprehensive; the sheet with the numerals can be ordered seperately.

Alternatively, although not the specific aircraft you want to do, RoG's 03904 boxing comes with a well printed sheet with two Norm 83 options, JaBoG 333 26+44 and JaBoG 34 23+92.

Hello!

Thanks for the answers. Meanwhile I have educated myself somewhat at the http://www.916-starfighter.de/  and Flightschwein’s F-104G  http://www.rolfferch.de/F104G/index.html -pages.

Also found thread German nuclear strike configured F-104G questions here which has also info about the 26+30:
https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235018330-german-nuclear-strike-configured-f-104g-questions/

but not the answer did it have the cannon or cannon cover. It was "special" strike configured.

What is interesting in the 26+30 photo ( http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g77/Mlodj/NukeB61onGermanF-104.jpg~original ) is that it has the older EL-70 conical ECM antennas. One would think that with Norm 83 camo it would have been updated wholly with the newer EL-73 and related antennas?  See http://www.rolfferch.de/F104G/html/sondereinbauten.html for the EL70/EL73 ECM system details.

Devil is in the details as always. For 26+30:: cannon cover or not? In the photo old EL-70 antennas, why? Does it have the Hintere AL-73 antenna?

Cheers,

Kari

Cannon cover - yes, see here.

EL-70C only, the EL-73 supplemented rather than replaced the earlier ECM system and was only fitted to 112 Luftwaffe F-104G's, while the EL-70C equipped 150.

Regarding the gun port I've just checked that photo, and the cover is NOT fitted. HTH
