KamAZ-4310 in 1/35 released by ICM in 2016 has name "Soviet Six-Wheel Army Truck". Guess why.

I know why.

Same with Zvezda's airliners.

But if you wanna earn money, you need to invest money.

Car corporations demands cash for the rights to use their designs / logos / names, so...

This does not seem to stop model companies from offering kits of supercars and race cars of various types though: just pay whatever fee the car companies ask and make the kit, at least if this has a decent potential market.. it's the lack of such potential market that keeps companies from offering all kinds of "normal" cars

The investment must have a chance of return. Paying huge amounts for an absurd licence means a higher cost for the whole project. A higher project price always translates into lower unit sales, so for most companies this type of investment simply does not make economic sense.

One usually pays package from certain manufacturer covering more than one specific type, such package may be initially expensive but taking number of possible releases into account, rights seldom go over 5% of unit wholesale price, usually 2,5-3%- definitely not huge amounts.

Spotted on Hannants future release list is the MB326. A nice kit I recall but its coming back at a price Around £23,00.  Cracking decal sheet though.

This kit was ideal subject for Historic Upgrade( had they continued with the concept ), since cockpit is almost non existent, at the same time having fine surface detail, nose is a bit off, but even with few swipes of sandpaper can be remedied to acceptable level. Usually Italeri does give interesting markings, since shortcomings of the kit are well known,

another missed opportunity in my view is not including larger decal sheet with early operational schemes.

Hmmm are you aware of detailed profit margins in the model kit industry?

Please share!

Yes, seriously ! Ferrari is one of the most difficult and most expensive companies to deal with when it comes to licensing (and not only...), yet plastic model companies are happy to pay them whatever their license fee is because they know that kits of Ferrari cars sell ! Similar story for other sports car brands and reason why there's no lack of these in model form.

If model companies do not offer kits of a "insert name of everyday car here"  it's not because of the fees they have to pay, it's simply because these would be kits that would not sell enough to recover the investments, with or without fees

This kit would indeed benefit from a more detailed cockpit, even aftermarket items today seem to be hard to find. Hopefully this reissue will prompt someone to offer a new cockpit

Decalwise, this selection is maybe a bit safe but makes sense as they are all markings that tend to attract quite a lot of interest. Would have been nice to have something a bit more "exotic", I'd have probably sacrificed the Italian grey aircraft for something different

Thanks Stephen ! I was aware of the Neomega cockpit (and of the OZ-Mods one) but for some reason I believed it was OOP and impossible to find (probably because none of my usual sources had any left). Looks like it's still available on their own website fortunately

That's a kit that I didn't even know I wanted until I saw it.  A friend, about 20 years ago, had a 760 turbodiesel with the VW LT straight six.  It was dark metallic grey with a strange, terracotta-coloured interior; it might have looked odd but it was incredibly comfortable.

I like it because it's got the same sleek aerodynamic look, that's still present in my 2021 XC40

Since this re-release is in my view last one before someone issues totally new tooled MB-326 kit, early AMI, as well as early-mid RAAF and SAAF schemes would have been perfect since I have not seen such decals in 1/48. MB-326K will probably be re-issued next year or as an out of catalogue item who knows when, regarding latter hope that Italeri won't just copy-paste their decal sheet from 2012, but also include proper SAAF Mil-Killers, plenty of info now available on mission and aircraft.

My initial Esci ones have AMI, Argentine, RAAF and SAAF markings . 😎

I'm not sure how those 40 year old Esci decals will perform, though...

Cheers,

40 year old Esci decals will fall apart as soon as a cloud goes over the sun. However, I find that putting 2 coats of decal film over them and letting it dry fully, then being gentle is about 80% successful with larger decals but forget it with narrow stripes etc.

That is proof that Italeri salesmen do know their job pretty well. However I wonder about the reaction of modellers used to Platz own kits after opening the box of say the 1/48 Super Hornet...

Probably less favourable than the response of those who have purchased the 1/72nd Platz T-33 in an Italeri box.  😉

This matches my experience. Their instructions tend to follow the lines of "just stick it on there or if you really care, look it up".

That P-51D might be worth picking up just to have some more decal options for the Airfix Mustang.

But how accurate is the P-51D decals? They where totaly useless for me building the RAF Mustang that emergencylanded at Getterön Airfield, Varberg, Sweden 1945...

They're F-51. From a quick lookaround, they don't seem overly wrong (2 Sqn SAAF are actually pretty much spot-on going by photos)

Wow, is it going to have parts for both engine variants?
