Which UK cars could be viable kits?

Even a fully stripped out rally prepped one with a 1760 crossflow, ported and polished big valve head, 4 into 1 big bore exhaust, twin 45's and a fast road cam?

Only one way to find out - RACE....!!! 🤣

No, they were standard 1600s in Rally trim. They let me go first because the weight on the front wheels (BIG sump guard) would flatten out the 3-plys. My engine was only stage 2....

One-make Mexico Challenge cars then, assuming you were in the UK?

I guess they were. It was just local club stuff.

Not necessarily, there were plenty of standard rally prepped Mex's ''back in the day''. My first rally car was one such, although it did have bubble arches fitted. Second rally car was a standard Mex, even down to the single carb motor.... Both home built.

What about a

Bristol Fighter? **

or a Beaufighter?

a Beaufort?

a Blenheim?

a Brigand?

or a Bullet?

** I think this one is the nicest looking

I'd buy kits of all those cars, but there probably aren't many people like me. I suspect that kits of those cars would cause immense confusion with the aircraft modelling community.

You'd think the Morris Minor would've been better represented in kit form...I seem to recall Revell did a traveller version, but as a very common popular motor of it's day and a common  classic thereafter I'd expect a few kit versions out there..( I don't remember Airfix even doing one in their 1/32 series.. tho correct me if I'm wrong)

I note this thread hasn't taken long to deviate into modeller's personal wish lists, rather than what you'd consider as a VIABLE kit. Reading the list of what some regard as viable has given me hours of laughs. Keep up the good work, it's making lockdown more bearable. 👍

It's surely due to what we like as a model makes it viable in our eyes, methinks...
I really would like a 1/24th modern technology mould of the Lotus Cortina. Come on Tamiya...

No personal bias there at all ... :)

Cheers,

Alan.

Me too - as long as it's a Mk2....!! :) Friend of mine in uni had one - red with a gold stripe, superb car and I always preferred the shape to a Mk1!

I would buy a Mk1 as well though....!!

I think that I prefer the Mk 1, but I understand your preference for the Mk 2.
My dad had a 1500 deluxe Mk1, brand new in 1966 Goodwood Green it was. Later he had a 1600 Mk2 Saluki Bronze.

I never drove the Mk 1, but I did (quite a bit) the Mk 2.

My dad was a bit of a Ford fan...

Mk1, Mk2, 2 Mk3s (1600GT, 2000E), Zephyr 4 (1700) Mk 3, First shape Granada (2000), Second shape Granada (2.3), Mondeo and last car was a Fiesta Mk 4 (The boxy one).

I'm surprised I can remember them all TBH.

Nearing retirement age, the old grey cells aren't what they used to be...

Ah, memories.

Cheers,

Alan.

Morris Marina, to remind me of my mis-spent adolescence 🤐 painted Harvest Gold  chicken poo brown of course

Our first family car. MMJ 856P, planted a sort of nondescript navy blue. It was colder than Siberia in that car in the winter.

I think this topic was always going to head into personal wish-list territory; but it does make for very entertaining reading all the same.  I've seen the same thing on model railway forums, where a manufacturer asked for sound ideas for potential models; instead of carefully thought out ideas most of the responses ended up in the "You should build X because I really want one, so does my mate and there must be loads more people like us..." territory.

The Lotus Cortina does seem like a good idea.  It's got the pedigree of international competition, the connection with famous names like Jim Clark and Jackie Stewart and it's quite an attractive little thing in its own right.

My instinct is that the Mk1 is the more viable, does the Mk2 have the same cachet or competition pedigree?

I'm not even that into Fords and I'd probably buy a Lotus Cortina kit if one were available.  I might eve buy two if it came as a road version and as a racing car.

I really must get a pair of modeller's rose-tinted spectacles. 🤣🤣 One thing that's brilliant about this thread is that everyone can vent their 'personal wishes' to a wide audience rather than bothering me with them at shows. 🤯 If only....

There have been a few Mk1 Cortina kits available in resin, or does sir want an injection moulded kit?

Talking of the weather, in the morning, you always tell if it had rained during the night as the side lights used to be half full of water 🙄

....yes sir does (& a Mk2 as well if you please!)

Having said that, I'd much prefer Tamiya downscale their new 1/10 Mk2 Escort to give us the new tool, state of the art 1/24 kit, the world so desperately needs!! 🤣

It's really sad that Escort Mk2 is so poorly present in market, only kit that is available is off the shape...

I had noticed that as well, think that's pretty much how these things go unfortunately.

One thing I do wonder about is whether common cars would be a decent bet - after all who doesn't like the idea of building your own car? I'm thinking things like Escorts, Fiestas, Focuses, Corsa, Astra, Cavalier etc. but I would guess to be viable they would have to have sold reasonably well outside of the UK too (which probably rules out most things Austin Rover/BL/whatever else they called it.
