TEXANTOMCAT Posted January 14, 2021 Share Posted January 14, 2021 Having built the Pavla model last year its a bit of a challenge butt builds up nicely - good to see G-AKIN - the machine from the Sywell Messenger Trust of which I am a Trustee again as a decal option - as a note the fin stripes were reversed when she was repainted in 2000! The Pavla kit had a Vac canopy but given AZ's history I imagine it will be replaced with an Injection version - probably two actually as the military and civilian canopies are different.... would have made life easier last year but I'm glad I tamed the vacform one and it is crystal clear which I doubt could be much improved by an IJ one! CarLos Posted May 10, 2022 Share Posted May 10, 2022 I've got the "in civil services" box and I can confirm that the kit is closely based on Pavla's original with two differences: the wings have now upper and lower halves (Pavla's were in one piece) and the canopy is injected. The Pavla one is clearer but we can always polish the other. In short, easier to build than Pavla because of the canopy and easier to thin the wing's trailing edge, as it can be done from the inside. T-21 Posted May 11, 2022 Share Posted May 11, 2022 (edited) The canopy is for the square rear window Messenger 4A. If you are making a Messenger 2A you will need to mark out in tape the rear oval window, make new windows from acetate and a bit of light sanding to the Mk.4A frame. You in the UK are very lucky to be able to buy both for £23 including shipping! A steal! (I had to pay £30 for shipping, and a similar value for VAT and Portuguese post taxes. Ufff...). If you are interested in the Messenger (and in the other post-war designs) buy them. The Appendices volume is not only text, it contains many, many photos. Very worth having! Also "Retribution and Recovery" and "Highways to the Empire" are at bargain price and came along with the Miles books.
