Knight of the Sky - Heller 1/72 Mirage 2000C

Recommended Posts

So I figure if I'm easing myself back into GBs after the debacle that was the BoB Group Build I might as well go for something simple. Just taking a kit out of the box and going at it without throwing resin or etch at it until I get my confidence back.

So with that in mind I guess I'm working through a Mirage. While I kind of prefer the two-seat look for the 2000 series that's not appropriate for Opération Daguet, so there is that.

Anyway, it's breaking down something like this:

Kit: Heller Mirage 2000C

Masks: TopNotch (unless it turns out the desert camo scheme is in fact different to the blue/grey that the Mirages normally wore in which case we're doing this the old fashioned way) plus whatever I improvise for the canopy masking.

Decals: Air-Graphic Models Operation Desert Storm - Part 1, depicting a Mirage 2000C of Escadron de Chasse 2/5 “lle-de-France", operating out of Al Asha with the rest of the French air component.

oooo a Mirage, what's no to love

It's just going to end up being a question of whether I regret not splashing the extra £2 for the Italeri kit rather than the Heller one. Especially since it's a net saving since the IT kit has the same aircraft as its stock decals. Whoops.

Guess if the kit turns out to be a dog's breakfast I can always go get the IT kit in and then use the Air Graphic sheet for a second build in the theme.

Having said that about the Italeri kit, I would be remiss in not warning you about getting the Heller Intakes together neatly, you will see what I mean when you study the kit 🙄😃

Fiddly or counter-intuitive assembly order?

...Or both. Those aren't mutually exclusive issues.
