You always turn out some crackers, but I think that you've outdone yourself with this one. The paint job is, as usual, superb, but I particularly like the weathering and the way that you've loaded it with stowage. Also of note is the way that you have displayed it. Brilliant! The figures are excellent. Stay safe. John. Hi John. I hope you and yours are keeping well in these odd times. Thank you, as always, for your too kind comments. I did enjoy this project and I always think desert Panzer IIIs need to have a bit of stowage......well most AFVs do but time is sometimes the reason for not adding some. Take care. diablo rsv
That's another wonderfully produced model Stix. I found your WIP just to see how you produce such great results by brush painting, it really is very impressive. I like the way you have done the base as well, simple but very effective and sets the model off nicely. I think I should try to create some bases for some of my builds. FrancisGL
Hi Stix, It is a very nice little tank, as always, a magnificent work with the model, and very complete, with its crew, base, and artistic background, it makes it look very well integrated. I love the rear with the jerrycans ... Cheers and TC Francis.👍👍

Sorry for the slow reply to your question. The ropes were made from reasonably thick, light brown, sewing thread. which I soaked in a mix of watered down PVA glue mixed with a little Humbrol acrylic Dark Earth paint - to give a better colour. The PVA mixed in is there to stop the thread fraying. I used it without PVA the first time I ever used it and it looked furry in the photos I took!! I'd love to join the next GB on the Panzer III, but I already have one underway and it's far beyond 25% done. I don't even have a Panzer III chassis AFV in the stash..... and don't have any new kit budget left, as most of the funds are going into new equipment for the foreseeable future.....so maybe the next time. Good job on the Panzer III though mate..... Regards Simon. Hi Simon and thank you very much for your kind comments. I have to say, I am a little dissapointed you will not be able to join us in the Pz.III STGB - we will miss your superb modelling skills! THEscaleSHOW
On 12/01/2021 at 21:16, PlaStix said: This was my project for the MTO GB. It was a fun kit to build – as most of Tamiya’s 1/48 Armour kits seem to be. Pz.III No.04 was part of the 501st Heavy Panzer Battalion, which was part of the Afrika Korps in North Africa. Following the Allied landing in French North Africa the Battalion, with its 16 Panzer IIIs, arrived in Tunisia between November 1942 and January 1943. Initially only three Tiger Is of the 501st landed at Tunis on 23 November 1942. These first elements of the battalion, along with four Panzer IIIs, were organized with other units into Kampfgruppe Lueder. They were involved in fighting just over a week later during the Axis counterattack on 1 December, destroying nine US and two British tanks on the first day while relieving German forces. I have done my version as part of a small vignette with the crew using the radio to get their orders. The base was one of my slightly rushed simple ones, using a bit of 4mm MDF and some household filler. Kit: Tamiya 1/48 Paints: Humbrol, Revell, Citadel, Railmatch and Vajello acrylic paints – all applied by brushes Extras: Lead wire, fuse wire, splatter guard mesh, stretched sprue, styrene strip, plasticard, Redog Models and Tamiya stowage, Tamiya 1/48 figures, 4mm MDF, household filler, Army Painter grass tufts. The WIP can be found HERE The Pz.III on its own against a white background: On its base with the figures: I also took a set of photos against the desert photo backdrop I have: Thank you to everyone who commented and offered advice and encouragement in my build thread. Thank you also to Patrice @TEMPESTMK5 for hosting such an excellent GB. Looking forward to the next one! Kind regards, Stix PS. IF YOU LIKE MAKING Pz.IIIs - PLEASE JOIN US IN THE Pz.III STGB WHICH STARTS ON THE 6TH FEBRUARY! Hey Stix Congratulations on the beautiful model 👍 It doesn't look like 1/48 at all and then painted with a brush - very good work. Also the weathering is well balanced and not overdone. The base is simple and does not distract from the model, but is a good addition that creates atmosphere. MD
