RAAF Airfix Brewster F2A-1 Buffalo ##Finished##

Recommended Posts

Thank you for the help @Rabbit Leader @LDSModeller And of course @Corsairfoxfouruncle, really appreciated.

The painting guide lists H95 as the colour for half the underside and the prop boss, this number has been discontinued, any ideas what Humbrol or Revell paint I should use as an alternative ?

Cheers Pat

Hi Pat,

Easy one, just use Humbrol 23 (Duck Egg Blue)

Hope that helps?

Pat, if I recall correctly Humbrol 95 was a colour called ‘Concrete’ whilst Humbrol 97 was called ‘Eggshell’. Along with the usual Sky coloured Humbrol 90, all three paints had a very similar appearance to what we know as RAF Sky. Now I know this is akin to opening Pandora’s box, however I have read that the lighter underside half on these US painted Buffaloes was a pale (possibly) Sky Blue which shows up a lot lighter in B&W photos then the Sky coloured rear fuselage band. If you wish to follow what Airfix suggest, then Humbrol 90 would be a close match to 95.
Cheers.. Dave

Thanks very much Gents

I was fitting the engine in the cowling this morning ((Scottish Standard Mean Time !) and I don't know if it's my kit or my incompetence but getting it to sit in the middle is a blooming nightmare !

Going to have to bit the bullet and start masking that canopy soon too.

Cheers Pat

Do you have precut masks?

If no, have read of page 2 of my Buffalo build (In the Navy GB), where

I used pre-painted foil strips to do the canopy frame - might be of some use to you?

Masking the Buffalo canopy is a right pain.....:fool:

Hi Alan

Your link took me to an amazing site about New Zealanders in the RAF, many thanks.

I'll keep that till this evening and enjoy reading it with a glass of Highland Park !

Cheers Pat

Please note the already lost tailwheel  !

The green isn't too bad but the brown will definitely need a second coat,

Oh and yes I have started masking the canopy.

cheers Pat
