my dad was too fast and forgot to add weight in the front part of the main float, so he cut off the rear part, stuffed about 20g lead into it and glued it back on

Nice recovery by your Dad! Fun to see something unusual on his workbench.

While he was building the Beriev I thought why not add some more seaplanes, haven't built any before. So he started the old Monogram Kingfisher which was now for a while in our stash. The Rufe was my Christmas present for him. Most probably he will also build Italeri's Ar196...😉

  • Reini78 changed the title to Aquatic Guns in the Sky...1/48 Nakajima A6M2-N Type 2 "Rufe", Imperial Japanese Navy

Did some research and found out that the IJN Grey was used until 1940 on metal aircraft and afterwards for fabric surfaces. From 1940 on Amber Grey was used. Ordered that paint fom AK Real Color, so have to wait some days to continue with the build.

Once again some preshading done

Considering the age of the decals, I’d say that was about as good of an outcome as your Dad could have expected!

Also, phenomenal work with the airbrush! I just finished up the mottle on a FW 190 and it looks purely amateur compared to that result!

This came out great--what thinning ratios/pressure did you se to achieve this result?  Bravo!  Erwin

thanks!

With the AK Real Color paints my dad used about 10psi and 80:20 thinner-paint ratio, sprayed with an Iwata 0,3mm.

It depends much on the paint characteristics, always different. Try-out and gut-feeling 🙂
