Corsairfoxfouruncle
Hello everybody... This will be my second entry into the build. It is the Academy P-40E which I will build in RNZAF markings. Funnily it comes with RAAF markings for Dickie Cresswell’s kite. However I will be attempting to do HQ*Q in the New Zealand Pacific scheme. I borrowed this photo from Alan @LDSModeller. Hopefully he wont mind and Hopefully I will get this scheme right. “RNZAF Official - RNZAF Museum” If for some reason it is going wrong or I’m missing something please anybody speak up. Otherwise we’ll see you soon. Please feel free to ask questions, post comments, or add thoughts. JOCKNEY
Great choice Dennis I would imagine most people build the version on the box cover. Best of luck Cheers Pat

Just check if the kit has "Round Exhausts" as opposed to "Fish Tail" - I discovered this while building My 1/32 Revell Kit as NZ3009 (HQ-B) and had closed up the entire fuselage I remember building a 1/72 Academy P40M which had both so..... Couple of other things the first not so noticeable in 1/72, RAF Contract P40E-1's had a flare dispenser just near the Upper Portside spine just aft of the quarter panels Second the RAF contract P40E-1's didn't use US Interior Green (or Curtiss Cockpit Green) in Cockpit area. The colour is a Blue Green similar to the one in this ex RNZAF Hudson photo below (Photo used with permission of NR Mines) I am currently working on a suitable mix for my 1/48 scale P40E-1 of NZ3038 (HQ-Q), will let you know once done. Before anyone jumps in and starts rebutting my comments especially Flare dispenser and cockpit colour, What I'm saying comes from looking a a very well preserved (former) RNZAF P40E-1 that had been in storage for the 6 or more Decades (rescued after WWII from open Storage at RNZAF Rukuhia). The Fuselage interior looks so pristine, that you would swear it came off the flight line yesterday (cockpit still pretty good too). The Cockpit colour is pretty much similar to the Hudson photo above, and the Flare dispenser is where I said it is, as I have seen it, and had discussion with the folks at Omaka where it currently resides (former owner passed away), and are care taking it for the family. Hope that helps? Regards Alan 2

Corsairfoxfouruncle
Not much of a start but I did get to the cockpit on both builds today. The “N’s” cockpit is the darker green. The lighter green is for the Kiwi “E”. Please feel free to ask questions, post comments or add thoughts. Dennis

Hi Dennis, Looking good so far , The Cockpit for the E-1 looks good just as an FYI an RNZAF Pilot in the cockpit of an E-1 note the Sutton Harness (RNZAF Official - RNZAF Museum - Used with Permissions) The RNZAF P40N's to my knowledge had the "Wooden" Seats, and were painted the same colour as the cockpit. The "N" in link below looks to have the seat still in RNZAF P40N The "N" Harness will have been US types Look forward to the rest of your build Regards Alan
Corsairfoxfouruncle
Evening everyone... I was able to get some work done as I never got to bed last night. Pretty decent fit for most areas, the forward wing to cowling join will need some work but nothing major. Please feel free to ask questions, post comments or add thoughts. Corsairfoxfouruncle
Evening one and all... I was able to finish adding all that needs done before paint. Started the rough sanding on the fuselage and wings. I think will be ready for paint mid-week. Please feel free to ask questions, post comments or add thoughts. Corsairfoxfouruncle
Morning everyone... Well I was able to finish up the painting tonight. I think I pulled the Pacific Scheme off ? Possibly the blue is ever so slightly dark but I tried with what I have available. Please feel free to ask questions, add comments or thoughts. modelling minion
That looks really good Dennis, the blue of the scheme makes for a very different look than what we are used to.

Corsairfoxfouruncle
Good morning everybody... There will be a slight pause of a few weeks on this build. It turns out my roundels are incorrect for the scheme. No worries as there are a set winging there way here now from New Zealand. As a result I will pause my RAAF P-40 also so they can cross the line together. It will give me a chance to start my Stug. III in the STGB anyways. Corsairfoxfouruncle
Good evening everyone... I was able to finish the decals. From the photo’s of HQ*Q NZ3036 the upper wing roundels look to be more inboard than standard RAF positioning. “RNZAF Official - RNZAF Museum” The underwing and fuselage are standard RAF Type roundels but the upper wings are RNZAF double blue roundels. I have a photo of NZ3036 from underneath but not sure if I can repost it. So This is how I’ve done the decals for the aircraft. Please feel free to ask questions, post comments or add thoughts.
