Katurbo
Hello, uff, second model finished this year - maybe next year will be better, who knows. Two models are very close to finish, so maybe I will beat the record. I think that it's not the last "four leaf clover" in glass-case - but at first, I need to find TBM-1C kit in 1/72.
S. Uehlinger
The FM-2 was the "Wilder Wildcat", lighter (2 less MGs) and an Uprated engine - it was designed to be flown off Jeep Carriers. Perhaps their finest hour was at the Battle of Samar - "The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors" when FM-2s, desperately launched from the CVEs of Task Force Taffy 3 (2 of which, USS St Lo and USS Gambier Bay are lost) caught Flat Footed off Samar, continued to strafe and distract the attacking Japanese Cruisers - some dropping depth charges on the Japanese ships - anything they had - and making dry strafing runs once they had expended their ammunition. 3 destroyers were lost, sacrificing themselves to save their Carrier Brothers. As a Destroyerman, it brings a Tear to my Eye....
112 Squadron
A great model with very subtle weathering! Indeed, the FM-2 Wildcats that served on the escort carriers are sometimes overlooked in spite of the bravery of its pilots.

SAT69
Beautiful 1/72 FM-2. The weathering is absolutely wonderful. Enlighten me, please. What is the significance of the four-leaf-clovers. Pilot's personal marking, squadron marking, carrier marking? I've never seen it before and its meaning has me curious.
ForestFan
Excellent build and finish, could easily pass for a larger scale. Looks like a lovely kit

The marking of aircraft that were embarked on USS Petrof Bay. It can be found on aircraft of VC-76 and VC-93 that both used to operate from this carrier in WW-2. Since all the aircraft that operated from a light escort carrier were formed in a single composite squadron the Avengers of USS Petrof Bay also carried the four-leaf-clovers on their fins. Luka
Wow, that close-up shot is insane; hard to believe that it's a 1/72 kit. Looking forward to see more amazing builds like this!

Bangor Lad
Great build and superb finish. How did you achieve the exhaust staining? I've not yet summoned up the courage to try what you've captured.

So, it's my recipe: - X-19 Smoke; - XF-55 Deck Tan (I really love this colour!); - basic white from Hataka - at the beginning of the stains. Of course, all paints are very diluted and used low pressure. And I returned few times to each colour to achieve satisfactory result.

Rich G
Really nice FM-2, I like the paint chipping is this a post effect or did you use a paint chipping medium over the primer colour? Also I believe you can get hold of a 1/72 TBM-1C from Hasegawa and Hobby2000 who are currently reboxing that kit. Rich

Rich Yeah, I know that TBM was reboxed, but unfortunately kit was sold out in every shop which I checked... but half hour ago I found one kit (only one) on online auction so now it's mine. 😎 About chipping - it's a first time in my whole life when I decided to make them on model in other way than using crayoons. It was always my weak point, so I found (in my opinion) the best tutorial on youtube and painted them based on that. I used hataka paints for brush.
Navy Bird
Very nicely done - the chipping is perfect for this scale. Can't wait to tackle my copy! Cheers, Bill

Ah, Uncle Night Shift, yeah he's amazing with his post painting weathering techniques, I will try this style out then on my next build as I like how you acheived the weathered look on the FM-2 using this technique, thanks for letting me know!!
