Okay not from seen in real life but friend sent some photos. This is original RS2000 that Juha Kankkunen drove in -79 1000 Lakes Rally.

Man in picture Jukka Leinonen built car then and now he is restoring it. Jukka was Juha Kankkunen's mechanic in early years and look after Gr.B Toyota Celica in Finland.

Very nice gentleman and I have stayed in his garage countless hours.

And if someone wants Gr4 BDA Escort there one chassis waiting in Jukka's garage partly visible in center photo.

Today, when walking to the shops, I saw a Daimler SP250 in white (Old English White, I think) drive past; close enough to hear it, but too far away to get a photo.

The same thing happened yesterday, in the same spot, with a MGB roadster in black that sounded like it might have had a V8 fitted.

There is special story related this Escort and 1979 1000 lakes rally. This was first 1000 Lakes Rally for Juha Kankkunen and it is challenging event. Believe me.

Juha made one mistake in that rally and car was damaged, but he managed to drive car to service and his small team managed put it together. In same class was driving Timo Jouhki

who said to his co-driver that no need to worry about this young guy anymore...

Juha was one half minute faster in last leg than Jouhki in a similar car and Juha ended 2nd in a class. Now of course interesting question is who is Timo Jouhki?

He has been running successfully family business and have been manager for: Juha Kankkunen, Tommi Mäkinen, Harri Rovanperä, Mikko Hirvonen, Kalle Rovanperä etc.

And this gentleman promised help Juha to forward....

And of course photo from Finish line.

Saw this today parked in Cambria, CA while out wine tasting with the wife in the beautiful Paso Robles area.  An AMC Gremlin being used to advertise a fudge shop! I think my dad test drove a car identical to this car in 1970(?), he decided against it for cost (and weirdness) reasons and he purchased a Toyota Corolla instead (probably a much better car). I learned to drive a stick in that Corolla, darn fun to drive and oh so light and tinny.
The appearance of the Gremlin has not improved with time you think?....spacer.png

I don't know if it's improved with age but I guess it's not as shocking because we've had 40-something years to get used to it.  I think it very much embodies the spirit of the so-called malaise era of American cars.  I almost like it.  I wouldn't have one, but it makes me smile.

The Gremlin has definitely not improved with time . It's still had a massive beating with the ugly stick and nothing will ever change that .

On a more aesthetically pleasing note , I saw a lovely red TR6  this lunchtime . Looked very smart .

I've also spent the last couple of weeks getting up close and personal with an MGB historic rally car which we've got in for a rewire .  The customer supplied a new wiring loom which I've been modifying to remove the bits we didn't need , add extra bits that we did and repurpose some of the bits to do a different job . I thought the loom looked a bit odd though , but I didn't realise why till I test-fitted it this morning - it's a loom for a left hand drive car whilst the car is right hand drive . Time for another outbreak of rearranging .

Love your response John L. Wouldn’t it be fun to travel back in time and watch and listen in on the styling design review meetings for cars such as this Gremlin, or the Pacer or the Pontiac Aztec or the Edsel or the... the list is long. Decisions by committees run amuck?

In my local workshop when I took our Astra down for its MoT.

Bronze "V" reg, Cortina Mk4! One owner from new, my mechanic said, so the guy was either young when he bought it, or getting on a bit now. Not in fantastic nick, loads of little rust pock marks on the bodywork, maybe he lives too near the coast.

BTW, Astra passed after two new front roll bar drop links.

I don't envy you that - my most hated job working on a car is anything to do with wiring and electrics!

I actually quite like the Gremlin, think it's quite cute!

Pure music. A teacher had one of these when I was at college, same colour probably & tan soft top, I never got sick of hearing him boot it up the College drive way. :)

Saw today a Series 1 P6 Rover 3500, I always thought the S1s were better looking that the S2s, todays spot did nothing to change that, love those sculpted steel wheels.

A couple of interesting spots over the last few weeks

p?i=f22dc45b26999a764bb498a82948cd73

Yes that is a light aircraft fuselage mounted on a car chassis in the background.

And also below is a very sorry looking Tatra 603 that was used as a spares car.  Unfortunately the good car is at a different premises so never got to see it. These must be fairly unique in the car world or can anyone else think of a vehicle with a rear mounted air cooled V8?

Didn't even know that a Tatra had made it to the UK!

Spotted in Sleaford yesterday lunchtime - a cream Morris Minor Pickup.  Very nice, from the brief glimpse I had.
