It was the second Gaydon Gathering at the British Motor Museum yesterday, I was so tired when I finally got in that I couldn't post the photos last night.

Jaguar XK120 OTS, the 15-inch wire wheels and front indicators make it look a bit like a replica but as far as I can tell it's the real deal.

It does look odd with 15" wheels...  DVLA shows it as first registered in 1976 and it has a 4.2 lump, which might suggest an XJ6 based replica?   Those Scottish registration numbers are generally recently issued age-related plates.

Sorry, but I'm afraid I think this is a replica - it's listed as a 1976 Jaguar XJ. (Beaten to it above). Still looks pretty good though.

No pictures from me today as I was driving, but on the roads I saw a Mini Moke in off white (pretty much the exact colour as the Jag above) and a grey Mk2 Escort estate - must admit I didn't realise they did the Mk2 in light grey and, as it didn't look particularly original I'd guess it's had at least one respray in its life.

Driving along the A259 at St Mary's Bay in Kent earlier this Evening passing the other way a convoy of various Sports cars lead by a Cobra replica , followed by a XR4i, a Ferrari,  Masarati  couple of Porsches and some others but going round and S bend at the time so could not confirm much else  all heading towards Folkestone direction

Except if that's a 1976 replica it wouldn't be an age related plate - probably a bought personalised plate.

Yes, I meant that DVLA has been releasing those because there were many unissued registrations in those series, so it's likely to be a recently issued registration.

Right, see what you meant.

According to its MOT (which expired in March 2020, so don't tell anyone 🤫) it's a 1976 jag XJ - Andy oops never saw all the above posts 🤣

Looking at the interior photo, that might be an auto selector in Park?   Having the complete drivetrain and suspension is the only way it could still meet the 8 point rule without the original body shell...

It could also just be a manual gear lever in first (or reverse), I didn't look at the pedals.  I think I'd have noticed if there were only two, but sometimes you miss stuff.  XJ6s also have an umbrella handbrake under the dashboard (can't remember if it's to the right or left of the steering wheel) where this appears to have the correct style of fly-off handbrake.

If memory serves they were something to do with British Telecom.

I have a vague picture in my head of seeing one that had some grey peeling and underneath was BT yellow.

I think BT used to have yellow vans, but they changed it to grey which meant they couldn't be seen in fog!

No photos but a few things noticed when out and about.

Two Morgans (not together); the first was black or dark green with white roundels and wire wheels painted to match the body. The second was red with bright silver (plated?) wire wheels and looked like it was being used for a driving holiday (suitcases on the luggage rack, man in flat cap driving, lady in headscarf in the passenger seat).

There was also a delightfully scruffy Morris Minor van that might actually be someone's working vehicle.

I've also noticed a lot of 3rd generation Toyota MR2s and Volvo 850s/early V70s, I wonder where they've all come from?

I remember that change, but wasn't it quite a bit later (1990ish???). The light grey was darker than the BT grey though, very similar in fact to the grey on a Mk1 Escort some friends had when I was little. My best guess is that at some stage an owner decided they liked the grey and weren't bothered about originality,

Doing my usual Sunday morning spotting, met this Namaka Blue McLaren GT

spacer.png

I'm a McLaren fan (see my McLaren Senna RFI post for example ;) ) but the McLaren GT is one car I just can't get on with. It is far too compromised, a bit too intense for a GT car McLaren wants you to believe but a little too soft for a supercar which it clearly is. 570GT was perfect because it simply is a more practical, more comfortable 570S without trying to fool anyone that it is not a variant of 570S. Also, 570GT is a better-looking car.

Driving through Nantwich this morning I spotted what appeared from a distance to be a Bugatti 35 . Bearing in mind what the real thing is worth nowadays I expect it was some kind of replica or kit car , but it looked good anyway .

When I got to the garage there was a Morris Minor Traveller sat outside . Looked smart , but a little odd because somebody had painted the woodwork in a wood grain effect .

Spots of the week, actually.

Holiday in North Norfolk. Didn't think I'd spot much, based on the journey up there, but...

Walking into Cromer, spotted something US looking and blue across the grass park area, and it was this:

bel air

and this:

bel air rear

1957 Bel Air. The owner's wife was sitting in it, so I asked permission and had a chat. It's in gorgeous nick, which was how they bought it, all they've done is swap the straight six for a V8, alloy wheels and disc brakes.

But then, as we headed across and into town, these:

Rover 110

rover 110

Plymouth Special DeLuxe, I think 1949.

plymouth

TR3

tr3

which, BTW, had the wicker hamper under the tonneau behind the seats!

and lastly, sorry about the intruder, but it was driving in as we were leaving, so just had to grab it - Sunbeam Rapier.

rapier

It was a meeting of the North Norfolk Classic Car Club.

Also, in no particular order during the week.

Three BGTs

Healey 100

Morgan Plus 4,

Volvo 120

and what I'm sure was a 1930s Aston Martin Mk2, (based on Googling afterwards). No chance to get a better look as it was going through Cley Next The Sea one way, while we were attempting it the other. Cley is the only traffic jam I know that has its own delicatessen, Pottery, Crab stall and Art Gallery! If you've been there, you'll know what I mean.
