Nice, one of only two railway locos I've driven (trundling the length of the platform at Cheltenham Racecourse station on the Gloucester and Warwickshire Railway).

I was staying in Broadway last August (no not THAT one!) and had tried to book a trip on the railway as it had just completed the link. No availability at all. All sold out quicker than tickets for a Led Zeppelin reunion at the O2!

Some sort of Bentley estate car in the Doctors car park this morning.

It wasn't ugly, per se, it just looked slightly over inflated/too many pies.

One of these?

By all accounts it’s a VW Toerag underneath

there are more Healey 3000s on the road now than there are Mk.IV Escorts

And yet you'll pay more to buy a big Healey than any FWD Escort except maybe an Escort RS Cosworth (and yes I know it's actually 4WD, but based on a mk 5 Escort).

What you mean is Inelegant (unlike RR's and Bentleys of old)...

Having driven a big Healey and various FWD Escorts that seems entirely fair; although admittedly I've not driven an XR or RS Escort.  I could get really pedantic and say that the Escort RS Cosworth was more of a Sierra Cosworth in an Escort suit, but I'm sure we all know that.

You've not missed much; when Ford went from the mk3 to mk4 XR3i, they raised the class standard, by introducing a new car which was average. From that period give me a Peugeot 205 GTi, a Vauxhall Astra GTe, or a Citroen Visa GTi 115ch.

Ah yes, I've good memories of the Peugeot and Vauxhall.  The only Citroen Visa I drove was the "Special" with the 650cc flat twin.

Well, the Visa GTi was a lot like the Peugeot would be with a longer wheelbase.

I have driven two Ford XRs. An original XR3 (Carburetted) - which was OK. The other was a Sierra XR4i - which was a hoot! Wouldn't mind one of those, just for nostalgia's sake...

P.S. I would also like the Tamiya XR4i as well. Have you seen the prices on 'te Bay? Bloomin' Heck!

I built two of those back in the day, one was my very first Tamiya kit, but I didn't do either build proper justice.  I'd love to have another go, both for old time's sake and because I've always quite liked the Sierra; but at those prices - no way!

Hmm - I really want to build my XR-4, but seeing this talk about e-bay prices was beginning to make me wonder!! However checking sold listings shows prices haven't been that bad, lowest £41 highest  £77.80 - with three listed at £85 but best offer accepted, so only the seller (same person listed all three!) and buyers know what they went for!

So they're not that extravagent - think I'll keep mine! Prices of the RS500 seem to have levelled out too, not as bad as they have been!

There's a seller with an XR4i for auction, starting at £79.99, at the moment.  The same person has a Group A RS500 Cosworth starting at £124.99.  It looks like there are actually a few affordable ways to get an XR4i kit.  Damnit, that could be another addition to the stash...

Today's walk to the supermarket was rewarded with the sight of a Ford Cortina 2.0 Crusader in two-tone brown over beige.  I didn't see the registration but I think the Crusader was a run-out variant of the Cortina.

More leg stretching around town before the rain starts again.

Audi R8 in metallic blue. Seemed to be at or around the 30 limit, but high on the revs and popping and banging a bit, so likely 2nd gear and overrun.

Parked (or more correctly, squeezed) in a local house driveway, a Dodge SRT (don't think it's a 10, even though that's what DVLA has it listed as; it's not a pickup!), big,  black and brutal looking.

Wikipedia says that there are a Viper SRT-10 and a Tomahawk SRT-10 as well as the Ram pickup version.

The Viper could be either a convertible or a coupe (and might be badged either Viper or just SRT(-10) depending on year.

The Tomahawk was originally sold exclusively through Nieman-Marcus (often called "Needless Markup") in the USA, as a motorcycle.

Yes the Crusader was the final hurrah for the Cortina. It got its name from the crusader symbol used for the Daily Express. Not sure what the tie-in was though.

Alexi Sayle had a song about theFord Cortina. He was well gutted when the Sierra replaced it!

Thanks for that. This one seems to just be badged SRT. It's only round the corner, I'll go and have another look sometime. DVLA says first registered 2015; don't know if it's LHD or RHD (or were they ever built RHD?)

Ah, ISTR there being some issue over UK badging that meant earlier cars were "Dodge Viper", and later ones became "Dodge SRT-10"; either way they all had the 8.0l V10.

Amazing isn't it, I can remember a car registration from 50 odd years ago buy no idea what I did last week!

Yes, truly weird!

VRG 867 - Mk1 Cortina GT 2 door, ex club rally.

CMH 899A - Mk1 Lotus Cortina, leaf spring rear.

Both in my ownership dating from early/mid '70s.

Dad’s first car was a two year old Ford Anglia JKC 782D. I even remember the colour ‘Purbeck Grey’ aka beige!
