Spot of the day, Part 4

A very mint and very yellow MkI Escort. Had 4 spots on the front bumper and a stripe down the side. Don't know if it was a Mexico or RS. BUT i do know know it gave me goosebumps as it went passed me and accelerated away. Almost sounded as good as a RR Merlin! Mrs fatfingers was totally non plussed and couldn't appreciate the sheer beauty of it - philisine! 🙄 I'll try to get a shot of it from the dash cam.

Regards,

Steve

Would anyone be interested in a bright pink Nissan Cube on the A1M? No, thought not....

Also while in London a couple of E-regs were seen out and about. First up, a rough grey XR3i. Then about 2 minutes later an absolutely immaculate blue Bedford Rascal (can't remember when I last saw one of those). The condition of those two feels the wrong way round,

Not a real spot as such, but this filled a hole in my memory.

Back in the seventies there was a fuss made over the Brubaker Box. Designed in the USA, it used a VW chassis and was to be an alternative to the surfers VW bus.

I know I saw pictures of it in Custom Car magazine and the like. Then it vanished. I always wondered....

On Sunday one of the channels on Sky showed an episode of a car programme called G.A.S. They were going to refurbish a box (build No 2) for Ventriloquist

Jeff Dunham, who is a car nut, apparently. Long story short, They tracked down Curtis Brubaker and the number one build. The owners of which have

the original moulds. The end result (to me) looked great in metalflake (70's) dark brown. VW had refused to sell Brubaker running chassis' so the project died.

Oh, the refurbished one has a 6 cylinder Corvair engine!

This afternoon, at about 2.30, on the East Road Industrial Estate, Sleaford, a white soft top Jag XK120.  Looked and sounded glorious.

Then, on my way back home, near the market square, a dark blue Austin 7 type of car, two seats with, presumably, a rumble seat (dickie seat?).  Didn't get too long to look as I was waiting at red lights and it entered the junction from the opposite direction on green.

Parked next to a lovely metallic burgundy Morgan +4 at Waitrose.  But then it’s an odd day when seeing a WW2 Dodge Weapons Carrier isn’t the most unusual vehicle spotted.

When did anyone else last see a Matra-Simca Rancho?  It looked immaculate!

In the surgery car park this morning. A black C reg (1985?) Porsche 944. Tidy, but in need of T cut to lose the hand washing swirls in the paint.

Then into Lincoln (to Greggs, Ahem) and a '65 C reg Mini was in front. Too good a condition to be original so probably a reshell.

Whilst working today I noticed this interesting tarpaulin.

Despite the hard top I knew it wasn't an MX5, it looked a bit like a corvette from the front, but really didn't have a clue.  Now before scrolling down does anybody really know what it is?.

Wow! Holy grail!

The Chap who owns it hopes to have it running in about a years time and judging by the quality of is other work I saw I have no reason to disbelieve him.  I have to be honest when he told me what it was I just pretended I knew and then Googled it when he wasn't looking!

There were two or three built at the time. They looked good on camera but were quite rough really.

The gull wing doors were way too heavy so a length of wood or a film crew member had to hold them open out of shot.

I know that DJ Dave Lee Travis owned one at sometime. I'm sure someone posted pictures of another on here in the last year.

Three good spots today - the red TR6 that I've seen before , an old boy on a 1950s Matchless single but , most surprisingly , a 1973 Austin Maxi 1750 HL . I can't remember the last time I saw one .

In Bristol this morning, a pale yellow Morris Minor van with sliding windows cut into the van sides and a ‘67/68 fastback Ford Mustang in white. This afternoon on the way to Cheltenham, a early Lotus Elite in pale blue.
